Default What is a bypass kit?

I picked up a Pioneer AVIC - F700BT and getting ready to get it install. What is the "Bypass Kit" I hear about? From what I know it allows your navi and video to operate while in motion. Is it a plug or something?

It's not a kit in most cases. Usually it's just a matter of wiring the harness to trick the head unit into thinking the car is stationary (ebrake wire relocated around in the harness or something).

There's plenty of sellers on EBay that list them as "kits". Really its an illustrated email telling you to ground a pin. Different radios do it different ways. On the AVIC it involves moving the pink mute wire from its original molex position and grounding it and the parking brake lead. This makes the radio think they parking brake is always on, thus always displaying video.... which is apparently illegal.

On a side note, your F700 does not play DVD's. That's why its cheaper than the F900.
