The Bose
The problems with the Bose system are
1) Wildly fluctuating bass. This was from the audio-pilot feature that attempted to adjust the bass for cabin noise. Mostly it just screwed up the base.
2) Poor overall sound quality / frequency response.
Item 1 is reportedly being fixed with an upgrade from Nissan for customer that compain.
#2 is sort of a relative perception. If you are a stereo hound (like me, and we prefer to be called audiophiles ) the system is fairly poor. (Particualry given the price). Bose's main claim to fame is their marketing department, NOT their engineering department! However, if you are a more "normal" person the stereo might sound pretty decent compared to other car stereos. A persons expectation in stereo sound vary WILDLY from person to person.
The Bose system does add a subwoofer and now that the audio pilot is fixed it should at least be a better system than the base system. If you are going to leave it stock the Bose is the best option. (in my opinion)
If you are going to upgrade, the base system is easier to upgrade and you will be discarding cheaper equipment.
