Default Security/Alarm

I just got my new 2004 Touring last week and i'm kind of skeptical on the alarm that came with it......any suggestions on what kind of alarms are good. Any opinions on remote start systems would also be appreciated, thanks!

The python 880XP is nice its got the responder remote. It will do remote start and security w/ 2 extra outputs. The python 1500 is good if you just want a basic remote start and security. You will also need a 555U to bypass the factory security during remote start.

If you have a 6spd, Compustar is the only certified remote start/alarm available. Otherwise, you can use any of the transponder units the DEI sells (Viper or Clifford)

I love my clifford matrix (rs3) responder system. I have a roadster and I had the proximity sensor installed as well. You can't stick your hand into the cockpit without setting it off with top up or down.

Just what I was looking for. cost about 700 total with install and window up/down and trunk release modules. I just wish I could select what the alert sound is without having to take it to the installer. I know there are 6 different, I think it cycles through all 6 by default.

The remote shows when the car has issued a warning, or alarm.
It works from quite a distance away too. I downloaded the manual and learned how to turn on/off various functions of the system, like backlighting on the remote, valet mode from remote, disabling the alarm.

The dealer didn't want to give me the manual to the alarm system, but I found what I needed at the DEI site.

I didn't have the autostart capabilities installed because I don't think that the engine should ever be running without a driver behind the wheel. Maybe paranoid, but think of the consequences if the system fails (invoking murphys law)...

Welcome to the board. I also have the Compustar remote and am very satisfied with it. Key features:

1) Paging up to 1.25 miles
2) Rolls windows down and UP
3) Opens gas tank cover (important) and trunk
4) Remote start on 6MT with timer

FYI you have to go through a series of steps to insure that you won't launch the car by accident. Essentially you have to exit the car with the car running and the key is actually out of the ignition and in your hand. When you shut the door, the car turns itself off and arms itself. In addition it includes a Timer that allows you to program what time you want it to start! Good luck with your decission.

Its not 1.25 miles, You needto subtract 1 mile. Try .25 miles. That is the normal range for all pagers, ect.

Viper makes a good alarm also, the 791, I believe

Oops, my bad, if you have the top of the line compustar, it is 1.25miles.
