Default 2004 + metra install kit = headache

I have a 2004 roadster ( as most of you know ) and I ordered the metra install kit for my alpine install. After install my center console doesn't fit into the top any more. The area behind the gauges that have the three tabs do not go all the way into the dash, and the 4 tabs do not stay pushed into their receptacles down the sides. Crappy way to mount a dash in my opinion, but anyway....

Looks like crap from the outside. Are there any other install kits that actually fit well? I have had this thing on and off about 7 times trying to resolve the problem and I am at a dead end.

What do you geniuses think?

That's strange.

I wonder if the center dash console is different in the roadster than the coupe?

Anyhow, I re-installed my metra kit last night with my Alpine deck.

I used the ISO brackets mounted onto the HU, but I put some foamy expanding cosmetic stuff underneat the clips before putting the brackets on the HU to give it more of a "snap" and a better grip when you slide it into the dash kit. I also used the trim plate that comes with the kit, but you have to remove the DIN cage and face plate and spring locks that come with the HU.

Also, one question, did you try to put the metal brackets back into the center console along with the new dash kit? I'm asking because I did this the first time and noticed that the fit was horrible!!! It bulged out and didn't go back well at all. You don't use those two metal pieces even though it seems strange that you loose the support for the bottom two screws next to the climate control box

Not sure if this helps or not.

I used the two metal pieces, but ended up drilling my own holes so that the kit lined up flush with the stereo installed. Was a major pita, but I am sure any thief who attempts to get this sucker out is going to have a hell of a time doing it.

I know that I DID indeed use the metal pieces when I put it back together. I will rip it apart tonight and see if I can make it fit better with these pieces removed.

Thanks millions guys....

I was going crazy...

Roger that.

I like to help where I can as well. I was very displeased with the fit before. Now it fits better than before the install.

Thanks...
