Here's a pic of the 8500's suction cup mount with the suction cups removed on top of Mike's mount. You can see that the hole's for the screws will match up fine. Like others, the angle of the metal piece (suction cup mount) that connects the radar detector to Mike's mount will need to be adjusted (bent). But it should all work fine. I'll post final installed pics when I'm all done.

I'm not saying that the mount doesn't work with the newer escort suction cup mount, it just doesn't fit flush like the pics on the first two pages of this post. The suction cup bracket sticks out just a tad bit from Mike's mount, that's all. The third hole up at the top of Mike's mount is not used.

I just received my 8500 X50. Prior to that I was using Mike's mount with my 8500 "Solo". After seeing all the posts, I was concerned. However, the mount for the 8500 will work with the 8500 X50. For those of you who are thinking of ordering the 8500 X50 and Mike's mount, might be worth finding out if you can order a suction cup bracket only for the 8500 from Passport?

Default 8500 mount

I just ordered a new suction cup mount from escort. I will design a new mount to fit the new suction cup mount. I will eliminate the top screw and increase the outside width to match the new mount. The old mount will work fine but I want my mount to match the new suction cup outside profile. For those who bought my mount and have the new suction cup mount, I will replace the mount if you send the old one back. (n/c)
I won't have the new design mount for at about 3 weeks. I will post a picture when they are ready to ship.

I just installed MIKE3348's 8500 mount and man it is awesome. I even attached my EZTAG to it so I don't have to stick it to my windshield. The heat here in Texas makes those suction cups into putty. I totally recommend Mike's product.

Mike,

Thanks for such a great product. It mounts well and looks really clean.

Here's a pic of Mike's mount attached to the 8500 X 50 via the suction cup metal piece. I used my Dremel to drill 3 holes in the metal piece to accomodate all three of Mike's screws. Then I used the grinder to grind down the sides so they wouldn't stick out. No problem. It fits fine. I understand Mike is redesigning his mount to accomodate the new 8500 X 50's suction cup piece. But until he does, it isn't difficult to make it work with minor modifications to the metal piece. Here are some pics:

thanks!
I haven't been able to find an aswer to this question using the forum search function. Has a hard-wired solution to the base model been answered or discussed?

From what I would guess, you have to tap power elsewhere (duh), whether it be the power socket, or electronics in the center console, etc. Doing so would be a pain in the a$$, in my opinion. I have heard of some folks going to audio install shops and having them do a nice hard-wired install for $20-$30. I think I'm going to go that route. Anyone have similar experiences with this type of non-mirror hard wired install? I'm getting my passport 8500 in the mail soon, and want a clean look on my base Z.

Thanks Z homies!

/please let this thread not turn into an 8500/V1 poll/debate (fingers crossed).

Just run the wire around the headliner and down the A pillar to the fuse box and tap it into the CIGAR fuse. Its really simple.

I paid a shop to hardwire my V1 to my inside map lights. Works fine but is always hot (turn off car and radar is still on) so I have to turn it on and off manually, but I'm @n@l about that kind of stuff so I got used to it really fast after the first time I forgot to turn it off.

Mike, I just bought a 8500 x50 today, brought it home and discovered that I was not going to be able to live with the stock setup. Found this thread and want your product. How do we do the deal?
