Is this possible for $1000 in a roadster?
OK,
I have an 06 roadster touring 6 speed with Bose set up. I was not happy with the bass response so I installed an infinity basslink in the stock location. Now I can get tons of bass but if it is turned up much at all my left ear hurts (weird I know). I did dynomat the stock location first. As a reference point I am 38 years old, not looking to impress anyone with huge stereo but just looking for decent sound - not super high end sound.
I still think the setup sucks and I am not happy with it. I am not that picky and I do not care for huge bass. For a reference our 2004 Murano with Bose sounds good to me, along with my 2005 Silverado with Bose. However the Z factory Bose is not nearly up to these standards. The Z convertible is quiet compared to the convertibel competition but I don't know if part of my problem is the lack of a fixed roof for acoustics.
Many have said a good set up front speakers with new headunit and amp makes a world of difference, even without the subwoofer.
Do you think I can get the following setup for $1,000 and any suggestions:
New Headunit
Decent front speakers
Amp to power front speakers (subwoofer is self powered)
Intergration with my steering wheel controls - extremely important
Satellite radio hardware for headunit, including antenna
Headunit with Navigation would be great but I don't think it is possibe near this price - but I will take suggestions.
What do you think? Anyone with a roadster have a similar setup that works. I am fine ditching the subwoofer completely, actually I would prefer it but I will leave it mounted for now because it was such a pain to mount, I can take it out later if I don't need it with the new setup. If you think I am headed in the wrong direction let me know if you have a better idea.
I have searched on the forum but I have not paid too much attention to brands, models of headunits ect. Any suggestions on what to search on and I can do some more homework.
I figure I can install it myself, especially since I was able to install the basslink ok.
Thanks.

so basically all you want is an aftermarket HU with some component speaker?
im running a kenwood HU, jl audio 10" sub in the stock location and infinity component speakers... amp for the sub and amp for the speakers WITH a cap... id say i prob spent about 1100 on that whole setup.
what did you actually want to know? its really all about what brands you want. search ebay... you can find some nice prices on everything you want. if you only wanted to know if it was possible? definitely... feel free to PM me with any specifics
