Default Has anyone tapped into the factory Bluetooth microphone?

Hi all -

I've ripped out the factory BOSE system on my '08 Touring and am installing a new headunit that comes with its own Bluetooth microphone.

Since I couldn't find a mounting location that's better than the factory one, I'd like to know if anyone has tried splicing into the factory Bluetooth mic that is mounted near the rearview mirror.

Using the 350Z manual as a reference, I've found a red wire on the driver's side A-pillar that goes from the microphone to the molex connector, at which point, it becomes a red wire with a black stripe. There's also a black ground cable that runs right next to it, which I'm assuming is the microphone ground wire. The problem is, the manual doesn't clearly show which wire is the ground wire and I don't want to make any assumptions before I splice into it.

Does anyone know if the red and black wires that run from the headliner area to the A-pillar are the correct wires to tap into? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi guys -

I spliced into the most likely wires that lead to the mic and ran the plug to my computer to see if I could record my voice. First, I tested out the bluetooth mic that came with the headunit and it worked fine. Afterward, I tried tapping into the molex connecter on the car, using all possible combinations for + and - and got nothing. I'm assuming that the mic is powered and only comes on when the factory bluetooth tells it to. I ended up mounting the aftermarket microphone to the place where the ambient noise resistor sat underneath the steering wheel, so it's totally out of sight and works great.

As for the components, yes, Scott has dibs. Scott, I'll send you photos of everything this weekend. It wasn't a fun job removing all the factory Bose stuff, but depsite my cut up hands, I'm happy that it's all finished now. The new stereo came out great. Here's what I have:

Headunit: JVC KW-AVX830 wth JVC's HD Radio receiver
Front speakers: JL Audio C5-650
Rear speakers: JL Audio C2-650X
Subwoofer: JL Audio 10W1v2
Main amp: JL Audio G4500
Sub amp: JL Audio G2250

Everything's sounding pretty much the way I want it to now. FINALLY.

Good to hear it finally all came together for you! And thanks for making the wife's car that much user-friendly (like the GT Roadsters should have come) :thumpbup2:

Will do. Yup, an 07' GT, and I had been back-and-forth on integrating the SAT and bluetooth with a new HU, but really wanted to avoid that so jumped on this offer for all the OEM stuff from the GT Coupe. It likely won't be fun installing the modules and all, but the end product should be a grand success.
