Default Weird Amp Problem

OK folks. I have a problem I just can't put my finger on.

Heres the equipment.

Pioneer Avic-920BT
Sundown SAZ125.2
Image Dynamics CTX65CS
KnuKoncetpz wiring.

When I turn the car on, the HU kicks on, then I get a loud pop, and a loud high pitched static/scratching sound from the speakers.

1. I checked the speaker connections and they are all good.
2. I checked the grounds to the HU and the Amp and they all look good.
3. I made sure that the Amp is not touching any part of the chassis
4. I grounded out the HU in more spots

Now I tried disconnecting the HU RCA cables to the amp, and plugged in my iPod via headphone to RCA adapter, and left the control wire connected. The Amp turned on just fine, and no noise. I looked over every wire, and every connection, and I have found nothing. Can anybody give me any kind of idea on what this might be.

Thanks

Sounds like you should re-run your RCA wire a different way around the car.

I also had a bad H/U that caused the same problem before.

Well I believe I can rule out the HU. The HU is new (I know that doesn't mean it's bad) and It's replaced a Kenwood DNX8120. With the Kenwood in I got the same result. Thats how I feel I can rule out the HU. I'll try to re run the RCAs. Thanks.

Anyone else?

+1... The RCA input/output wires usually don't have enough shielding to be run near the power wire from the battery to the amps.

Well rerouting the RCAs didn't solve the problem.

What about the amp inputs? (I like those sundown amps but you never know) Bad RCA's?

I ran my power wire down one side of the tranny tunnel and my two sets of RCA's down the other side and I don't have any problems at all.

I don't think the RCAs on the amp are bad. Because of when I plug my iPod into the amp, I don't have that problem anymore.

I got the RCAs and speaker wire running down the driver's side and the power running down the passenger's. Tomorrow I'm also going to install my old amp to see if that may solve the problem.

I'm really about t just find a good audio shop, and let them fix it........... (I hope I don't have to resort to that)

So the Sundown is powering the ID's?

I just want to confirm your wiring.
1. Make sure the headunit RCA out wires are correctly connected for FRONT (not for sub, not for rear, and not for input).
2. You should have not reused stock wiring for the ID's in the door, thus you ran new wiring from the speakers to the Sundown amp.

All done correctly. I'm using new speaker wire for the speakers. The RCAs are in fact connected the the amp input and the HU front out, and Yes the Sundown in powering the ID.

Trust me when I say that I ran threw this about 100x today. I looked at everything that could have been done wrong.

And I just noticed that sound only plays threw one of my rear speakers. Those are being powered from the HU. I want to say this is just a ground issue. Another thought is to disconnect the rear speaker harness.

If everything is wired up correctly, maybe it is the settings on the amp?

Gain too high? Try filter settings?

ground your rca's to the back of your head unit might fix your problem if the pico fuse took a dump in your pioneer , i understand that it is new

I tried the pioneer fix, and that didn't solve anything. But I did notice that when the amp powers on, it starts in protect, then goes out of protect. That's when I get the noise issue. So I'm going to look over all my grounds again.

I sounds like your RCAs a grounding out somewhere. The you examine the cable when you reran it? Swap it out for a known good?

I've tried 3 different sets of RCAs. Same issue with all three. I'm waiting on my multimeter to get back to me so I can check the HU and Amp ins and outs. I'm also going to to check the RCAs.

How is the amp mounted? Is the input side pressed up against a wall? The sheilds on RCA jacks are connected to the output stage of the amp by a thin 1/16th inch thick tab that is very easy to break off.. I've fixed two of my old school Memphis ST1000D amps like that. It sounds like you have some DC riding on your input.
