My new audio install!!
Here is a custom box i had made for a JL W7, but it's housing my Audiobahn for now. There are a few parts the dont line up exactly. i have been told i should take it back and have them fix it. it is not to bad as you can see but is slightly noticable. the first pic is when i attempted to hand saw a box myself(No Power tool). It took me 8 hours and i still had along long way too go.

well, i didn'r realize how much it would come out to be... though it's easier when i can just drive 2mi and someone sets everything up than having to order and have it shipped, then look for someone to finish and install it.

3/4" MDF has always worked fine for me. No standing waves, no flexing. What you're saying does make some sense, but I doubt it would make an audible difference.

check out the signature to see what the new install will consist of...
i'll post some pics during the install.

Mine is sitting in my closet, and coming in the mail
Yours looks pretty good. When's the install?
I'm not going to have it installed until spring/summer at best. My install alone is going to be $2500-3000, along with equipment worth almost $7000 (although I didn't pay NEARLY that much...I .
you ebay and forum.elitecaraudio.com
). It should sound incredible. I plan to compete, hopefully nationally, in sound quality competitions.
And for the record, my subs will be glassed too, but for cosmetic reasons.

your stereo install sounds a little larger than mine! haha. and i'm sure it'll sound crazy loud!
i'm going for more of the SQL approach. seems like you are going for more of the SPL approach.
i hung out with the guy who has won the past 5 years for SQL. he's put in about 50K into his civic. he now judges all of the events. his car is sounds rediculous! and i hung out with the guy who has won for SPL...man that thing was loud. too loud!
my install should start in the next 2 weeks (i hope). depends if i can get the car over to the shop.

That's what...$6700? I never said I paid (or would pay) that much, but that's the value of it. I'm working on getting it all for about 2800-3000.
You could not be more wrong about the spl thing
Also, the added cone area means that even tens will hit loooww like a 15 would, but be more responsive to faster beats. Any pics of this $50,000 SQL civic? Sounds interesting. What kind of products did he use? What does he compete in, USACi, IASCA, SLAP? It's not steve head is it? If so he runs DLS amps speakers and subs now; actually the same speakers and subs I am going to use.

My subs are known for maximum SQ, not spl, so even a trio will hit 140 MAX. I just want to make sure I get over the 135db cap for sq comps, and be able to bump here and there...or everywhere

i didn't realize that stuff was used for SQL. my bad.
i'm not sure what the guy was running. i talked to him for a while and listened to the car and he showed me all sort of gadgets in it.
he's the world champion for SQL (he's been in over 75 magazines in, i think, 15 or so countries).
PM HEUGE....he talked to him more than i did.
i didn't have my camera on me...i wish i did. everything in that car was controlled by a custom computer program that was created for the car. it was nuts. if i think of it...i'll post his name.
well i haven't read the whole thread yet, but to answer D2R: the vinyl wasn't falling off, the whole trim panel was, as only being held by 3m tape. and djkern: the wood box can easily be bondoed or painted to fill most pores and shape it. they are remaking both front and back trim panels and are going to bondo them to mold to the exact shap of the STB. the manager was pist his employee let it go like that. i didn't think it was that bad though.
