can someone please confirm wut i have learned on this forum?

to get a clean sound: you would need a new hu, front speakers, amplifer, and tweeters. Is this correct?

rear speakers aren't that important, you can just turn down the power on the stock ones?

and the sub is only if u need that extra thump?


i was selling my system but nobody seems to want it, but im not getting a clean sound i believe due to the absence of front speakers and tweeters, is this all correct? i presently have poor mids and highs, please help!

A search will give more specific info than this. But here is a quick run down. Yes, scrap it all. If your budget is tight start with a HU and front speakers. Polk and Infinity both make nice speakers without being rediculous in price. As for head units, buy a good sounding unit. Not just something that has a ton of features. (Which I think get old within five minutes) I am partial to Polk speakers. I just bought two pairs of MOMO 6.5s. For head units I have always liked Alpine, but I don't care for the new **** layout. It doesn't stick out far enough in my opinion to not accidentally press one of the buttons right next to it. I decided on a Clarion DXZ835MP HU. I got it for $285 shipped on ebay. For about 500 bucks before installation you can have two nice sets of speakers (I found a great sale at Circuit City) and a HU. That will get you started. If you aren't happy with the sound, add and amp and work from there. Remember you will need a dash kit to fit a DIN size unit. I was recommended the BESTKITS version and I really like it. This should get you going for now.

 

thanks for the reply, but as u can see from my profile above ur posts, i have a system right now. im missing front speakers and tweeters for now. i trying to figure out if the absence of those are giving me my incredibly horrible mids and highs. for instance, when i play high pitch rock music i leave the car with a headache. its far from clean. so would speakers and tweeters fix this?

 

Whoops, sorry for that confusion. To answer your question DEFINITELY. Mid and high frequencies are directional so it is absolutely necessary to have front speakers. You may have to mess with amp and bass/treble setings, but the addition of front speakers should solve your problem.

A little off subject. I just realized you are in San Diego. I am jealous. It is cold as **** here. Turn that stereo off, and drive around with your windows DOWN!!!!!

 

haha its cold here too! not snowing or anything but hey 60 degrees is cold for us san diegans! ha ps. tried to use my face to adjust trebble and bass, still sounds like crap....sigh...i need to spend more money

 

geesh, I should post a pic of my Z under her factory Z cover, up on Dricore panels, in my garage. She will be sitting idle for the next 3-4 months, at least ! I am extremely jealous of the weather on the west coast...some of us can't even drive our Z's year-round... oh, and NO, 60 degrees IS NOT COLD ! Try 20 degrees for a change of pace. hehe
