Default Delphi XM car/home probs...

I have the Delphi XM in my nav pocket hooked up to the stock h/u w/ FM modulator. The sound quality is sub-par, so I figured it was just my modulator all along. I love XM so I stuck with it even though I can't really blast whatever I'm listening to.

But then before christmas I picked up the Delphi Home adaptor for my home stereo. Now mind you I'm running a perfect condition Onkyo 5x75 home theater amp, going to 4 tower speakers. I'm figuring this'll be the best I've ever heard XM...

I plug in the unit, power it up, fire up the amp, and low and behold - TONS of background noise. I mean its horrible. I put my amp to "50" which is usually "**** off the neighbors" volume level, and the music is overwhelmed by line noise. I go to the menu of the Delphi unit and turn up and down the line out level, the noise doesn't subside regardless (it does change with the amount that I'm selecting, however). I switch my inputs (thinking maybe I am running to a blown set of inputs), still noise. I even have the XM unit and the amp both plugged in to a Monster HT2000 Surge protector/line conditioner. Next, I exchanged the home adaptor thinking that it was defective. Still the exact same problem...

My question - for you Delphi XM people out there, do you have this problem with a home kit? I thought all along that my FM modulator was killing my signal quality in my car, but shouldn't XM in the home be damned near perfect (oh, forgot to mention I had full sat & terrestrial signal on my antenna)... Should I replace my main unit (which I think is now out of warranty...)? Is this Delphi unit just not very well made for sound quality?

Anyone else have anything near this kind of problem?

I don't have that problem unless I don't plug the cable from the stereo into the back of the delphi all the way in, when you first plug it in it seems to be in but it is isn't push it in a little harder.

Many people have very fine audio quality in the situation you are describing. Could there be a cable problem as westpak suggests?

Thanks mgk65! I didn't even know a site like that existed, I'll continue my search there!

Thanks again!
