Can you remove the hole section were the speakers are behind your head? I was looking at it ant there is a metal top to the clove boxes and then anothe metal peice right under the plastic panels. Is this structural or just something that the panels snap too. I was thinking if you could take off the top peice I could make a custom box to hold 2 subs and some components. The subs firing back toward the hatch and the components firing up. That way I wouldn't loose any hatch space.

 

...as far as cutting the speaker section off...Yes it has been done. I'm not too much into the audio world so I has no idea it's been done!
