Hey all,

I just took apart my center console or the shifter/boot area, not the stereo console, to thread my LED strip underneath it so it wouldn't be visible, and when I took that part off, I noticed a small square white cloth? imagine the space beneath the controls for temp and air, Is this thing important or what does it do, if it doesn't do anything I will hide a small amount of wiring in that small space.
I watched two videos on youtube of people removing the center console off of a automatic 350 also but theirs didn't have the white cloth...
I forgot to take a picture of it, but I will hopefully be able to after work tomorrow.
It is an 05 5AT Z by the way.

maybe to aid in sound deadening or dissipate heat... who knows

 

^ Yep. I'm going to go with that as well. Just saw all of that nonsense under the boot and entire center console doing an audio install.

 

hmm thanks for the quick replies, so do you think it is best left untouched and nothing on top of the cloth? or do you think it would be okay if there was a couple wires running across from the drivers side of the console to the passenger side but on top of that white cloth, I just really want to hide the wires from my footwell LEDs because it looks quite tacky right now.
