Unhappy New MB Quart setup! Need help bad...

I'm putting a new setup in my car (finally getting rid of the OEM HU) Heres whats what:

Alpine CDA-7984 (65w x 4)

MB Quart RSC-216 Reference Componenets (RMS 60w)
MB Quart RKC-116 Coaxials (RMS 60w)
MB Quart QM-250.92

Here's where I'm running into problems. The specs on the 10" MB sub are: Sensitivity = 88.8 db
RMS Power Range = 175 watts
Impedence = 6 ohms (nominal)
Low Freq Resp. = 20Hz
High Freq Resp. = 300Hz
Power = 175 watts (Max)
Enclosure = Sealed (Accoustic Suspension)

I desperately need help finding just the right amp to power this small Sub. I don't really know a ton of stuff about car audio, but if someone could point me in the right direction, that would help. Should I use a mono amp just for the sub? or a dual for the fronts and the sub? Personally I would like to just use a mono for the sub. But like I said, I don't really know. Does 175 watt max mean that if I have a amp that put out a RMS of 200watt x 1 that my sub will blow? or what. I'm sure you get the idea that I have no clue. At least I'm gonna get it installed so I promise not to screw up the car's interior trying to shove this stuff in. Please help.

Oh yeah, and what are you guys opinion on the Infinity Basslink. I did a search, but haven't gotten a definite answer. A lot of people seem to be having problems with them. Arrrgh, why couldnt they've just put a better system in the damn car from the factory. Idiots.

Last weekend I had my MB Quart set up installed:

Alpine 9825 w/ XM radio
Quart DSE216
quart DKE116

and soon to add next week:

JL 10" W6.v.2

I had originally installed my old Linear Power amp to push the DSE216's and had the DKE116's running off the head unit just for fill. But, it did not sound good at all. THere wasn't enough power running the Quart's so I upgraded to a 5 channel Eclipse amp which drives the entire system.

Even though I have yet to add in the woofer, the sound is great! I put Dynamat in the doors which add's a little kick to the 6 1/2's. My Eclipse amp has 150W dedicated to the sub channel I believe ,need to verify since its so new, and according to my installers that should be plenty. I don't think that an extra 25W RMS would hurt the woofer, but you should probably check w/ somebody that knows a little more.

All right, my kind of people! Last weekend I spent 17 hours installing my MB Quart QSD216's, Pioneer head unit and MB Quart QAA4250 amplifier.

Everyone out there should use an MB Quart amp to run their MBQ speakers (but maybe I'm biased since I'm the electrical engineer on the project) lol

My plan is to add 2 MBQ DWF354's (beta testing) and then upgrade to 2 MBQ PWE354's each run by their own QAA1000!

I'll post pics later if you guys are interested.

Speakers don't blow from too much power (within reason), they blow from poor quality power. Usually the Max is listed as Peak power which is crap. RMS is what you should go by. I have a 600W Mono RMS Rockford Fosgate amp powering 2 200W RMS subs and never had an issue (3 years). I've also got MB Quart Q Series components and Reference series coaxials in the STi pushed by a huge 4 channel PPi.

MB Quart is the clearest sound you will ever hear. Just be warned that Quart tweeters are a little bright.

TeesZ, what is MB doing in AZ?

MB Quart was acquired by Rockford Corp 2 years ago. MB Quart facilities are in Germany where all of thier speakers are designed and built. We introduced a line of amplifiers this year which were designed and built in Tempe, AZ.

Wow! I live right around the corner from the Fosgate facility (Rockford Dr.) in Tempe. If you guys need to test hardware on an STi or a Z Roadster, please let me know!

You guys haven't heard of Focal speakers then. I was a big MBQuart fan as well. I had the Refernce Q218's in my truck. Then my brother introduced me to Focal. I was impressed.

I hear Focal makes some kick a$$ speakers but I have never heard them myself. To play fair tho, you did say you had the reference MBQ's so it may not be an even match considering MB Quart does one better with their QSD's. Maybe the Focal sounds better than the QSD's, I don't know but I have heard good things about them and they are one of our biggest competitors.

here is a pic of a QAA4250 on my "test bench" in my Z...this amp will be removed and modded many times so until that process is complete, it is simply mounted to a piece of MDF. I have big plans for the install but it will take some time to complete

Why would you run a single woofer at 6 Ohms? Those type of impedances are used for multiple subwoofer systems. Is it a dual 3 Ohm coil driver? There aren't many amps out there designed to drive such a high impedance. The Quarts are unique in that the load is user selectable between 4 and 2 ohms to optimize the power for the particular application but if you run it at 6, you'll just be wasting the amps potential.

If it is a dual 3, I would use a 2-ch amp and run each channel to its own coil.

or you could sell you sub, lol
