Default OEM HU crapped out, ordered Pioneer AppRadio 4

Well my radio finally gave out on my 08 Z. The CD player just stopped working, although I still can use the radio. Time to upgrade anyways, my friends all make fun of me since apparently I'm the only person that still makes CDs.

Wanted something that works well with my IPhone, and was deciding between Pioneer and Kenwood. Ended up going with the Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio 4. Bought it from Crutchfield so it should come with everything I need. Think I just need to get another cable for the phone so it connects and charges.

Going to be weird to have a radio with no CD player, but I guess it's time to get with the time.

Im still a CD user too lol, I like the fact that I actually have something that's tangible and mine vs a download.

Man the last time I purchased a head unit was early 2000 with bluetooth or wifi! Now so many up to date options and choices.

I really didn't want to do it. I am not really into audio systems and such, would rather listen to my exhaust, but being limited to the crappy AM/FM was killing me.

I was going to spend around $200-300 dollars on one, but for a little more why not get something that is a lot better?

The biggest factor for me is the Apple CarPlay. My phone connects and I basically have everything I need right on the radio. My phone, text messages, maps, Pandora, music is right there.

I usually keep my phone in the cup holder behind the shifter. Now I have to figure out whether to run the cable to that spot or somewhere else. I ordered 2 cables, one 4 foot and one 10 foot, just in case lol.

I've got the iPhone cable coming up through the handbrake opening, and it works very well. The iPhone tucks in between the boot and the console.

Just received it yesterday. It actually does not look too difficult to wire everything up. The most time consuming part is off the car so I will probably do all the wiring tonight and tomorrow if I have time take the dash apart and plug everything in.

I will post pics once installed.

I have never actually used my hardwire to the phone. It connects with Bluetooth and thats all I ever use. My antenna has no power going to it because I ditched the bose amp in the back so I get like 1 station in

So just finished the install a little while ago, and I must say, I love it!!!

Install was time consuming since I wanted all the wires to be neat and I ran the extra wires for the microphone and GPS, but it really wasn't too bad, Crutchfield's instructions were very straightforward.

It is dark now but I will post pics tomorrow.
