Default Vent in the hatch area? Pic included

Does anyone know what this vent is for? There is one on each side.

My vote goes towards being abe to close the doors easier. If the car was airtight, the doors would be VERY hard to close completely. Think of it as an air pressure equalizer. Have fun matting, I just got finished. If your using scissors to cut the stuff with I recommend spraying them with some Pam. Trust me, it will help.

I think the vents are for normal air flow through the interior. When your AC/heat fan is running and pulling air from the outside, it has to exhaust somewhere.

I think the rolling down is more so that you don't wear the seal everytime you open/cloe the door. By lowering it is free of the small lip that it fits up into.

I think it is there to make the air that comes through the vents have a place to go...

no. they are just flaps and they bounce open and closed as you drive and make an awful tapping sound that is audible when you have the interior in the rear stripped. they are not that scientific.

They're there to cover up the squeak clicking, seam creaking, and other noises that come standard with the Z

O.k., the vents are for relief of air pressure inside the cabin. The windows notch up to ensure a proper seal when the door is closed. The drop when opening is for clearing the frame
of the door.
