Default Small Q on DIN HU slots

I'm a bit new to this .. I see people with custome plates in front of the DIN slots for headunits in the dash and the HU seems to be centered. Are there three positions in there a HU can be mounted, top down or middle? Or how does this work?

you just answered your own question. They're custom, meaning a custom mount. If you use a kit (Metra) you have option of top or bottom mounting. The center mount will require custom face plate and mounts.

If you use the metra... Do you have to mount your HU in the top DIN? Can you put your HU on the bottom and "pocket" on the top???

I haven't been able to find a definate answer on this, and it very important that I do.... It doesnt look like you can just switch the two positions because of the contour of the dash......I know you can mount an HU on the bottom with the Double DIN kit, but I just want the single DIN with a pocket kit.

Some1 fill me in!!!!!

If you look at the outside edge of the stock radio--actually, the opening in the console where the radio sits, you'll notice it's a little bigger (wider) on top. This makes it so that the Metra kit can only be installed one way, with the pocket on the bottom. However, you can use the double-din bracket (that also comes with the Metra kit) to mount a radio on the bottom. This will leave a stereo face-sized hole, but you could make a plate or a pocket for it without too much effort.
