Default Nice weekend but stereo problems with my bros altima

Well it was one long weekend. And after getting home my younger brother contacts me to help him fix new speakers into his altima. He had just bought Pioneer 6500 model and he wanted to upgrade his rear speakers. So we take seats out, take all the screws put speakers in (while cd was blasting on front speakers) and I connect the wires - nothing.
I reverse connection - nothing.
At this point I am thinking MAYBE we should try putting old speakers back in just to check if there is valid connection.

Well nothing.
We checked the fuses - nothing.
This is really picking my brain - I can’t think of anything else that it could be the cause of this phenomenon.
Ah yes - this cd (stupid pioneer) had f/r option before installation and afterwards only L/R option. Did something go wrong in the CD player itself?
Anyone have any clues on this?

My bro would appreciate it (he is still in college and is going away tomorrow morning) so if we can fix this before then – hura…

Tell me if I've got it straight. Old radio and speakers worked fine. Put it new radio and it and old speakers worked fine. Put in new rear speakers and they don't work but fronts do work. Reconnected old rear speakers and now they don't work. Is that about it?

Check the connection at the head unit itself.

The new speakers aren't powered, are they?

Could there be an inline fuse?

Good Luck. I'm off to bed.

well this is what had happened. The radio was working while we were installing new speakers. LOOKS like this pioneer has some internal circuit breaker that cuts the supply off when you are mixing power supply lines from unit to the speaker. We disconnected power from the cd player/ unit - and plugged it in again - IT WORKS NOW... And my bro is on his way...
