Default Sub enclosure for JL Audio 10W6v2 sub

I am looking to put a sub enclosure and amp rack in place of the spare tire space in my z. Going for a stealth install (spare won't fit on the car anyways)

The depth of this space is about 6-7" high.
Is that enough room for a sub enclouse for a JL Audio10 W6 ?
If so, what size/cubic space would I need for it ?

If you can point me in the right direction in purchasing a box, or making one, that will fit and be the correct size for this sub, it would be appricated

Thanks

You'll have tons of space for a 10w6v2. I've got 3. As for the size of the box, that depends if you want to go sealed or ported/slot. Here's the link to JLAudio site and the specs for the 10w6v2.

http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w6v2.html

Sealed Enclosure Range: 0.50-1.00 cu.ft. (14.0-28.0 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 0.75-1.25 cu.ft. (21.2-35.5 liters)

Thanks for the reply.

After reading the other post you replied to, ported or sealed box, I think I will go with sealed.

Now I was just going to use the center section of the trunk, where the spare was, and leave the side/foam peices.

so 6" high, say 20" in length, what would be the width needed to get me in the 14.0-28.0 liter range needed ?

Default cu ft?

My guess would be 8 - 15 inches.

LxWxH/1728=cu ft?

Even 2 10"w6v2 will fit. I can also take pictures of the actual custom box so you would have an idea.

Check These guys out, the come highly recommended for my boy who is an Alpine rep up here. They do spec. work for Z's and old school supras....

www.wickedcas.com (look for magic boxes)

I'm not big on the fiberglass look I like the OEM look myself I bought the JL stealth box. The enclosure is fiberglass with black carpet. It comes with 2 W3v2's... I have hooked up to a Alpine MRD-501 and it hits real nice.... Too hard for most modern music, but very smooth and musical. My guy is installing some sort of base control device through my touch screen...

ACP-
to answer your question from the other thread-

i dont remember exactly what the depth is in the spare tire well. the depth require for the w6v2 is 7 inches. then you need space for the wood or glass so you would need a little over 8 inches for sub, wood, and a little room to play with inbetween. if the depth of the tire well is 7 inches like you said then you would have to raise the trunk floor height up just a little. an inch or so wouldn't really be a big deal though. you'd still be losing less space in the trunk.

if you look closely at the picture that arvin posted you can see that the middle section that has the subs and the amp rack is slightly higher than the sides (right arvin? or am i just seeing things?).

As far as air space there is approx 1.8 cuft in the spare tire well (what i've read at least) and that is plenty for two w6v2's.

btw- i heard you got tuned at sfp a couple days ago. i really wanted to go and see your car again (saw it last at HIN last year) but it's way too far south. how did your car end up doing?

Don't forget that the airspace displaced by the sub needs to be taken into account. As an example, the 10w6v2 displaces .068 cubic feet. JL's recommended sealed box (in the pdf: http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/pdfs/W6v2_MAN.pdf ) is 0.625 cu.ft. You must add the driver displacement to the desired internal volume: .625 + .068 = .693 cu.ft. Remember that this is internal volume, so that if you make a rectangular box and use 3/4" MDF (like you're supposed to), the box will be 1.5" bigger in all 3 dimensions.

Is there a mass produced box available that takes out the spare and can seat 2 w6s on the floor like that. Im also looking for a stealth install with one or two w6s. I was hoping I could buy a premade box ready to go

i don't think there is a mass produced box that will fit in the spare area. Although a shop in Oakland, CA can do it for a reasonable price. I have the "spare area" set up and I live in Richmond. You are more than welcome to check it out.
