There are some photos of people having custom boxes made for the rear of the hatch as well as the sides. If you are interested in saving space, I would PM Nazar, since he makes a custom box for the side moldings to the back of the rear strut brace inside the hatch compartment.

Someone on this forum has the glovebox changed out with the Bose grill. He has a sub behind each seat and it looks factory.

I like the way this other guy did his:

I wish someone would do a how-to on how to make these side boxes. I am seriously thinking about making one for my 10" Solobaric...

I'd get one from the various vendors and although their reputations are high and the work is quality, the price $$$ is not my bag

Based on the pictures, do you guys think the sidebox goes below the carpet level? (ie: cut into styrofoam)?

Hey Roy. I built exactly what you're asking about for my S10L7. Sits above the carpet, takes up about the same amount of room as these and sounds KICK A$$. It's not that hard to do on your own if you know what you're doing. Just takes time. Took me 2 weeks off and on, and I supposedly do know what I'm doing. Read up a bit on line. Try http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/main/. That's a good site. Otherwise, I could probably help you a bit more if you need. Just LMK... Definitely doable though!

motown, that's the site I've been looking at. I'm trying to figure out if I want to use an MDF straight front or fiberglass the whole thing....

It's pretty clear cut and looks like I could do it... but now that it's getting colder (55 degree days) I fear I'll need to do it this weekend or wait until next spring! One question... did you drill a hole, pass speaker wire and silicone it up or did you use a terminal plate?

And any pics?

I'm particular about air leaks, so I drilled two holes and ran a bolt into each with ring terminals connecting the wire on each side. That and a drop of silicone for good measure and she's air tight. Ring terminals may as well be giant ports. They tend to leak air like crazy. I built my whole enclosure out of 'glass. Blue painters taped the whole rear drivers' side of the back well and layed down a couple of layers of glass. Popped that out, gave 'er another couple of layers and set my square ring (?) up for the sub. Stretched some cloth for the final form. End product is great. Not really hard, just took time. With the weather, yeah, you might want to do it indoors or wait till spring. Good luck!

In the compartment where it belongs...jk I think the example of the side JL's with amps in bed is freakin beautiful!!!

Seriously though. I just did it the cheap way and built a box for my 12" in the OEM compartment. Dimensions (15.5"x15.5" , 7"h, and an angled lower front edge to keep speaker from firing directly into top of compartment). The whole sub box's top surface sits at a slight forward/downward angle. Volume is right around 1095 cu. in.

sorry i can't post a CAD illustration that i created RHINO...talk to my350 about that...

this may help...my thread

I am in the process of building my box right now and it is completely original-- Im putting the subs in front of the Z bar. Im mounting them inverted between the Z bar and the back of the seats at about a 30 degree angle towards each other. 2 IDMAX 12s at 1200 watts each at 1 ohm. All fiberglass resin. Its gonna take a while to do, but should look real good when its done, and then underneath the Z bar and back (spare tire well included) is gonna be my motorized amp rack.

I went with it in the forward part of the spare tire well, directly under the strut bar. Shoots up toward the bar, but I am experimenting with angles either back or forward (see other current post). Currently 10" gonna switch to 12" which will also fit.

The Z has such a beautiful canvas to do sub/amp installs.

I wish I had one.

Vic, you mean you don't actually own a Z? Isn't this your board?
