Mounting Amp Under Seat
I have an old school amp which I tried unsuccessfully to mount under my driver's seat.
The amp fits and the seat can go back into place, but the wire looms (I have manual cloth seat with side airbag) catch on the amp's heatsink fins.
I have four questions.
1) has anyone has this exact problem and managed to do something about it?
2) Is there more clearance (even 1/4" would be plenty!) on the passenger side?
3) How do you mount the amp? What kind of screws do/did you use? I know in the stock sub enclosure, you can't drill in the floor due to the gastank! Is there something I should worry about under the driver's seat?
4) Any pictures of mounted amps under the seat would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I can't remember if the passenger seat has more room, don't think so. Have you lifted the carpet, there's styrofoam on the floor of the drivers side to make the floor even. You might have good luck mounting right behind the drivers seat as I know there is styro there. Take another look!
Use a thin layer of fiberglass directly to the metal if you want something to screw into, otherwise a 1/4 inch piece of wood down there for somthing less permanant. Then place the amp and screw through the carpet. Good Luck and post a pick when you get it done.
Alright after work I mounted my amp under the passenger seat. It definitely has more room and I don't even recall the last time a passenger moved the seat forward or backwards so it's pretty safe even though it slightly touches one of the wire looms.
There IS more room under the passenger side. I have all the wires routed under the carpet and through the hole where the airbag loom comes out of. It looks very professional if I do say so myself.
In terms of mounting, I was thinking about just cutting little holes... and having these layers:
bolt
amp
carpet
large washer
upside down flat bolt....
So I'd basically cut a small hole enough so a bolt can be put through and then I use the washer to secure the amp to the carpet. As it is, it's not mounted to anything and I took some VERY hard corners coming home and I don't think it moved.
I was racing against time. 5PM-6:15PM (sunset) I unbolted the neg terminal on battery, unbolted the seat, unhooked teh airbag harness, test fit amp, remove all back panels, rerun all wires, sand down seat bolt area for negative, install amp, reinstall harness/seat, test amp, reinstall panels, clean up.
It was the most exercise I've gotten in a while! lol.. I'll take some detailed pics later one when i clean up the install and "permanentize" everything.

Cool! Looking forward to the pics. Better be careful, don't wanna have a date in the car, move the seat for more room, and end up accidentally cutting out the background music by running the seat track over the wire...lol. I would put a piece of wood down there and screw into it, but if it doesn't move no big deal.
