Import 2DIN install (new pics!)
As promised here are the pictures of the install of my Sony WX-7700MDX. This first shot is from the trunk. Notice the Alpine XM radio controller in the nav box.

subwoofer
Here is the custom subwoofer installed with the two JL IB8s. It matches quite well with the interior of the car. While it won't win any SPL contests, it sounds nice and tight with plenty of volume for my needs.

JL Audio 300/4
Here is the JL Audio 300/4 amplifier located in the compartment behind the passenger. It is driving the fronts and the subwoofers. You can't see it but the XM tuner box is located underneath it.

Last one. Here is the head unit with the lights off. Sorry a little blurry though but you can see that I changed the lights to match the interior perfectly. It's not so hard since you can change the color to 728 different variations! The colors in this picture may be a little off but trust me, the colors are pretty much exact!
Forgot to take a shot of the unit open but you can go to my previous thread for that shot.

If this is a Japan domestic market unit, the FM range is different over there than over here. Does the unit have an extra wide FM range to reach all the way to the 108 MHz top end, or are you stuck clear down near 100?
It's a sweet looking install, and nice move on the RCAs, btw.

Rahtok,
No, this is a standard Japanese FM receiver; this means that this will not work in the U.S. without an FM converter. I opted to go XM since I only like one or two stations in FM here anyway. FYI, the default Japanese band is 76-90.
Thanks for the compliments!

Nod. I was trying to remember the band range. I used to live in Japan several years ago.
That's the primary reason I never bought one over there is that I still like to have the option of listening to the radio, even if I don't often do it.

I paid $600 to pricejapan.com
That includes shipment and double-box shipping via DHL. Yeah, it's pretty tough to navigate through pricejapan. Basically, you can e-mail them using their website and give them this address.
http://www.kakaku.com/prdsearch/deta...t=WX%2D7700MDX
Yes, it folds out. I attached a (crummy) picture of it below.
They will take the current lowest yen price there and add 5% plus tax and shipping. For more info on the unit go to
http://www.sony.co.jp/sd/products/me...x_7700mdx.html
It's in Japanese also but you can use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ to translate but its not a very good translator. I think that I can probably answer most of your questions about the unit itself. Let me see...
- It retails for 85,000 yen in Japan
- It has a 5.5V preout
- 52W per channel for fronts and rears
- 728 customizable colors
- MiniDisc support including NetMD
- Aux inputs
- Can control external CD changer
- Comes with a thin remote.
- Built in 7 band EQ with user adjustable settings
- Subwoofer controls and line out!
- Adjustable crossovers

That deck is SOOOOO damn sweet!
Anyone know if it will ever hit the US market?
I never, and I mean never, listen to the radio anyway, so it wouldn't bother me if the tuner section didn't work anyway.
What type of kit did you use to mount the double DIN unit?

As much as i would like to take credit, Z Auto Sounds (what a cool name for a stereo place, eh?) did all the hard work. They customized the face plate, the sub, and made everything look super clean!

Oddly enough, it was posted here many many moons ago. Fortunately, I understood enough Japanese that I could read up on most of its features. i knew from the beginning that I would buy a double-din unit and replace my stock stereo. i used the money that I didn't spend on the Nav system.
I also considered many other products like Eclipse, Pioneer, Clarion, but none of them came close to what I was looking for which was a balance in performance, features, and looks.
There was this other one, though, that I seriously considered
