DIY: 06+ Base with Cruise Control using Uprev + OEM Parts
3 Attachment(s)
So its been discussed a few times how base model 06+ Zs have the same wiring harnesses with connectors, and ECU hardware needed for the cruise control models (enthusiast & touring). The base ECU simply doesn't have the cruise control PID feedback programming in it's code lines.
E30cabrio has recently confirmed getting this working by adding the 2 required switches on the clutch and brake pedals (about $60 new), installing the steering wheel buttons panels ($65 new), and reflashing the ECU (with Uprev $ varying) to a modified enthusiast or touring's ECU software. Vince@RTtuning has been helping me with Etuning the past few weeks and has agreed to move my tune to a cruise control enabled ROM. I should have this ROM tomorrow (Monday) and just went thru installing the required buttons / switches (took me about 45 mins). Below are photos i snapped of the brake pedal and clutch pedal where the switches go. (In the upper left you can see the brown-brake and blue-clutch connectors for the missing switches) Attachment 450507 (Again upper left you can see the clutch pedal upper travel stop bolt, you remove this and replace with clutch switch that also doubles as pedal stop) Attachment 450508 (Upper left again, you can see the clutch switch in place) (Attachment 450509 I have also replaced the steering wheel panels with used junkyard sourced units. I would suggest looking at other's DIYs for removing the steering wheel as its very easy. The button panels simply connect to the existing female connecting on the slip ring behind the airbag Hopefully tomorrow I can update and report I have it all working:fingersx: |
Cool!

NICE!

New software hasn't arrived yet, working out a few differences between the ECUs.

This is good stuff! Subscribed! So according to the original thread on this topic, there are no lights in the dash for Base owners once it's up and running?

Do you have the part# for the 2 required switches on the clutch and brake pedals?

Everything else you might possibly need is here:
https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...market-bs.html Here is the brake switch. When the brake is off it is pushed, closing the circuit. When you hit the brake it releases opening the circuit turning cruise off. The clutch is the same deal. Attachment 450510 Attachment 450511 In the upper left corner where your clutch pedal cuts off there is a screw hole. put the clutch switch there. Attachment 450512 Attachment 450513 |
Thank you sir....calling Nissan tomorrow.

It WORKS!!!!!!! :icon38:
Vince@RTtuning got me the new ROM just before i left work, flashed in the parking lot and used cruise all the way home. So my base 07 had an EV10A ECU part #, he provided me a modified EV12A ROM that had my latest tune. So if your a base car and already have Uprev, its about $125 in parts from courtesyparts.com, 45 - 60 mins work, and a new cruise enabled ROM file. Not too bad in my opinion. |
I'll hopefully be confirming this weekend. Waiting on parts...

I have no lights. I ordered a new cluster but am not certain it has the lights. If it does not I'll be using it and sending my original cluster out for the lights to be added.

I have map switching.

let's hope your new cluster has lights. This is great, but wold only be useful to me if it had lights to enable map switching. Glad yours is up and running
Right now I don't have the tuning package so i've only got one tune. I do hope that the lighted gauge cluster works and/or you can open up the cluster and solder in your own LEDs. |

I agree, worth it at 3x the price!!!

I too had the EV10a part # and now have a EV12A. but my reflash was done by GT Motorsports and I can not make any changes.I have added the switches but my cruise does not work above 50 mph in 6th gear, does fine in the other gears.
Any suggustions? I can set cruise well above legal limits. |

Any suggustions? I'm not 100% sure how the locked ROMs work, if another tuner besides GTM can open the file then maybe you should contact Vince. The ROM he provided me is not locked, i simply don't have the tuner package yet. But the fact that it refuses to work above 50 mph is very odd. I'm suspecting that the EV12A ROM you have is still looking for the yaw sensor for the traction control. If the cruise control LEDs arn't on the circuit board then i bet the TCS arn't either, so you wouldn't know if its messing with the cruise. |
I opened my cluster to decide if I wanted to solder the leds in. None of the leds that corresponded to options my car does not have were there. I found a guy willing to solder them in for me in So Cal and it is out for delivery as I type. I will take pictures when I get it back, hopefully next week.
On another note, I asked for two leds to try soldering onto the cluster I got hoping they were there so I may have a modded cluster from an 07 for sale. |
Great write up Ian and good work E30cabrio, guys have been kicking this around for a while hoping it would work but never really dove into it. Ian let me know when you need to upgrade to a tuner version. In the meantime I can send you a ROM with antitheft and a 91 octane map as well. Also for you other guys I could probably get a low price together to help you convert none CC ROMs to Cruise enabled ROMs
|
Great work! Keep us updated on how this works out.
|
No go for my base...
I'm guessing I'm still on the Base ROM.

I had the same deal. XACT gave me the new ROM. Ask CIN if they will do the same.

23 Feb 2012: CIN Motorsports got back to me. They'll be providing me the EV12A ROM at no charge! Shout out to CIN for hooking me up! Best shop for G's and Z's in the Carolinas. |
Success!!!
I'm pleased to report that my cruise works after getting the EV12 Rom on my ECU. Drove 100 miles up to get the change and and 100 miles back with no problem using the cruise... My right foot was very thankful :)

Congrats!!!

LEDs soldered in, unfortunately, they don't light up. 204 & 229 are the cc LEDs
Attachment 450514 Attachment 450515 |
Looking at the FSM I believe getting the lights working may involve a bit more then i first thought.
My 1st instincts tells me the gauge cluster's processor isn't programmed to recognize the cruise on/off data messages. But now i'm looking at it, the "Unified Meter and A/C Amp" maybe another part that could require replacement as it is what tells the gauge cluster what to indicate. I'm going to take the risk and pickup a used touring model gauge cluster (already has LEDs for CC) and hope that it works. If it doesn't then i'll have an extra cluster to replace all the LEDs with BLUE units.:icon14: |
I ordered one too. Hopefully it works.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is from an 07 W/O Brembo With TCS. TCS/SLIP stayed on so I put a piece of electrical tape under the face. Attachment 450516 Attachment 450517 |
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta order mine Monday. Gonna swap all my interior LEDs to Blue so while i'm at it I'll remove the TCS/SLIP LEDs. |
Just verified SET flashes when changing maps. I have three. full, valet and no start.
My car is officially fully optioned!!!!!!!!! (to my wish list) |
Damn you guys are awesome, thx for the no hassle writeup ian99rt I ordered it all today, time to hit up vince again

Got my Cluster and hvac controls coming so I can change led colors.
|
How much did the touring clusters cost you guys?
|
I ended up getting mine for 150 locally. I paid 175 for one that turned out not to have cruise but the eBay seller agreed to take it back.
Make sure you get one at least with TCS. (that is how they show them) With and without Brembo with or without TCS. |
Does it really matter if it comes from a brembo equipped z? Is there some light for those?
And is it easy to just take those TCS and slip lights out instead of just taping over them like you did without hurting something? And does everything else still light up correctly? I assume it would since the tourings just added features on top of whatever the bases had |
The one I got is non Brembo with TCS. The LEDs are smt soldered onto the PCB. It is a hell of a lot easier to just slip in the tape.
Obviously if you are changing the color, then it makes sense to leave them out assuming the loss of continuity is not an issue. |
Ok cool. Nah I wouldn't be changing the colors, I like the amber lights and green for cruise just makes sense.
|
Do you know the part # you replaced? or what it is exactly called?
Also, did your milage from your old cluster carry over to the new one? or is it showing what was on the old car your new cluster came out of? |
I ordered mine from an out of state salvage yard. Car was an 07 with 29k miles, tcs and cc, non brembos for $100 + 20 for spare hvac controls.
Havnt received them yet so I'll confirm when possible. |
Gauges did come in today.
Housings a little rough so i'll just use the PCB and stick it into my good as new housing. Tore it down to inspect and sure enough the cruise LEDs are there. Gotta order the new gauge face and LEDs now |
100 is a really good price. Can you pm me the yard you used please?
|
mine works now
Well I contacted Vince and he said that my cruise might not be working because I changed the diff gears(from 3.5 to 3.3). I noticed that ian99rt had 4.08 listed for his car so I didn't think this would be the problem. Well it was, I swapped to my old gears and my cruise works in 6th gear up to 90 now. I am so happy.
|
I've got my cluster in and waiting on LEDs. Havn't tested mine yet though. Should this weekend.
|
I have five maps as of today!
1 TUNED 2 INCREASED TIMING MIN 2 Gallons 100 octane 3 VALET 2500 rev max 25mph limited 4 NO START 5 STOCK |
