Latest Gen Hi-Tech cat-back installed
This weeks been pretty damn good. I passed my exams for this semester, the weathers been 'interesting' to say the least, I had a productive golf lesson and finally my new HT kit arrived on Thursday. Well, I shouldn't say finally, because the icing on the cake was picking up the car after installation this afternoon.
I have to agree with everyone who has installed one of these kits that the Z is now the car it should have been coming off the showroom floor. The engine rev's don't die as quickly, the pick up is much better and the torque just seems to go and go. Did I mention the oh-so sweet engine note, the quiet yet deep burbling at idle, the resonant rumble as you pick up speed to the flat out wail when it hit 4k+. Love love love it. Best 1.5k I ever spent.
I have attached pictures so you can see the changes and clean ups done to the kit from the last iteration.
You can see here that the tail pipe alignment is a lot better. The picture doesn't show it but the pipes are central to the bumper cut outs and are parallel with each other with no discernable angle off perpendicular with the muffler.
The tail pipes do not stick out any more than the stock version anymore and they come out to the same length as each other.
Here's the new flange assembly, slight higher than before it seems and does not hang any lower than the stock exhaust did.
Here's the view of the whole kit, in polished StSt.
And finally all the welds have been cleaned up internally
This is now a trick unit!
For those in Melbourne, Dr. Auto is now the Melbourne reseller and recommended fitter for Hi-Tech systems. He will have a new kit on hand next week for sale (Richies??). Call Tudor at Dr. Auto for details on (03) 9775 0384 or if you want to order one. He did an excellent job on mine and has long experience with Nissan special vehicles, although he's an STi man by choice.
I'm going for a drive again right now, my enthusiasm for the Z just got a shot in the arm.
Don't talk about it, just do it, you'll not regret it.
Regards,
Jim

Couldn't say Harry, but Lambros was quite adamant that he'd taken a lot of bother with this version, even so far as calling Tudor up three times to make sure the fitting was going ok. I know ypwpat had a grumble about the quality of the welds inside the pipes, quite rightly too, and they've definitely been cleaned up.

Jim:
We really have to thank Lambros on spending time and getting a Z at his workshop to get all the pipes aligned properly!!! I do really appreciate his business....
I really hate to see myself selling it, but I really need money to get quite a lot of office equipments right now to make further money at this stage.
And yeah... the exhaust at Dr. Auto is mine for sale, brand new and it looks exactly and of course sound/drive exactly like what Jim describes!
Beautiful exhaust jim..... it makes me not wanting to drive my car out now with the old version.... and you will notice that the exhaust note will get a bit quieter over the time as I can experience right now... and it will not be so smelly later on as it takes time to run in too!!!! Great power can be felt soon Jim!!!
by the way Jim.... who else got the system instsalled with you at Dr. Auto??? DavidM or lionking???? I know both of them are interested in the system system as well, one of them might want to get the brand new system off me....
cheers and enjoy it mate!

There is another unit at Tudor's place and it belongs to DavidM, so LK would be the man to lay claim to yours if was so inclined.
Get it done soon David if you read this, don't wait, there is no real reason. The fitting cost $160 which was two hours plus the cost of a couple of gaskets.

Hi Jim,
Good to hear your happy and I'm very pleased to hear that the power-delivery at upper revs feels improved. Exactly what I'm after so hopfelly I'll be as happy as you.

I will, but I figured I better run the car in 1st :-) I need another 80km and then a service. So I'll probably get it fitted sometimes next weekend (or just after).

Did you replace the extractors as well or was the install from the cats and if just from the cats what power increase did you get....
I just had mine installed with a duel cat back system, but we could get no conclusive power increase, it seems the extractors are limiting the flow, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM... well it did! Its busted at present hopefully it will be fixed ina couple of months. TIAPANXP in the gold coast are looking into an extractor refit to boost the power by 10 to 16 kw, plus with the ECU upgrade from CHIPTORQUE on the gold coast it goes realy well...

Jacko, the system is cat back. A few of us have dyno'd after installation and the power increase has been between 15 - 18 RWKW.
Have you actually dyno'd with the chiptorque flash to see actual power increase?
As always

Hey Sundog (or anyone else who has fitted a custom exhaust), I'm wondering if the exhaust comes in some kind of a box/parcel. Reason I ask is as I am wondering how one get's the original exhaust home ... I take it that it's pretty dirty so you'd want to contain it before you put in it in the car. On that subject, I take it that when dismantled, the original exhaust fits into the boot ... right?

The HT exhaust came in a plastic wrapped cardboard box. Unfortunately it was destroyed in getting the kit out. The old exhaust won't be that dirty, especially as your car is barely run in and no, it won't fit in your boot. The muffler takes up most of the space and the the other two pipes are too large to fit in as well as the muffler. The pipes will fit in together though. It was two trips for me to get it back home. Bring some cardboard with you so your plastic trim doesn't get cut up.
I suppose you could have put the pipes on the passenger seat, but sharp steel objects on my leather upholstery wasn't something I'd consider.

I fitted a Hitech (rear muffler only) back in May this year. I have two questions
1. Do the cats to rear muffler pipe work make much difference to the note/sound. The muffler change sounds good to me
, but I am curious if anyone has tried with the muffler only and then with pipes.
2. Do the new revised pipes work with older revision mufflers?
I am e-mailed Lambros about that second question, but I wanted some unbiased opinions as well.
Cheers

To all the hi-tech 'users'. Does Nissan say anything when you go in for your service? Do they try and and say that the engine warranty is (or maybe) voided due to the custom exhaust?
I'm corious to hear the experiences.

David, my service department and the guy who sold me the car had nothing but praise for the system. There was absolutely no mention of voided warranty, andnor should there be!

Same as my dealer (Gary Rodgers, yeah... the one with the Holden Racing Team).... I asked them whether or not the after market exhaust will affect the warranty issue, they said it will NEVER be an issue!!! Even with the spacers, they love those spacers and even ask me where did I get them from!
Enjoy the exhaust!
cheers,

Yes I had it dyno'd after chiptorque add their parts to the computer, its up about 10kw at the rear wheels but the torque lifted as well. We beleive if we open the extractors up with high flow cats we can actually get a 30-40 Kw increase, that should put at 180kw at the rear wheels. One thing I have noticed is the big difference in output from sea level to desert with altitude.

Ouch Jacko... you in Central Australia with a Zed?
No issues with the heat?
What about sand/dust clogging the air filter etc?
Why do you think the extractors hold so much power? Nathans car has short headers and they don't add that much...maybe 5rwkw. And he doesn't have any cats!
I'm very keen to put on some equilength extractors for the zed not for the extra power but the extra torque. Hope someone makes some up soon.

Hey Zuff
No problems with heat or the dust I have a cold air induct fitted as well.. The car should be back on the road in a couple of months, I chatted with the guys from Taipanxp on the gold cost and they beleive the output that the US guys are talking about can only be gained though the extractors, I you like give them a ring the guys name is Kerry 0405102307...
Bonus of being out here is unlimited speed limit....
