I hate to burst anyone's bubble but reading this makes me not want a TS ECU

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&pagenumber=6

All the other bolt ons should be really good, just if problems arise with TS its a long time without a ECU to get a flash.

my 2 cents

I agree, best off getting the XEDE piggyback. At least it will be modded to your specs and is transportable to other vehicles.

I'm just reserved about the lack of good numbers.

XEDE is selling for 1300 AUD fyi.

Based on a sample of one, the XEDE should still be treated with some reservation. I think that gains of about 11kw were reported from the XEDE, but that also included a new exhaust. Not the sort of numbers to write home about. I was also disappointed when I spoke to Chiptorque as they couldn't tell me what fuel was in the car (95 or 98 RON) when they tuned it.

One would think if they were going to the trouble of tuning an ECU, they would want to maximise the results with the highest octane fuel

Thanks for the link. It makes interesting reading, although this is the first bad post I have seen on TS. After 6 months and several hundred cars, one would have thought they should have the flash pretty right by now.

Probably even if we opted for the factory flash from the USA cars, we would see an improvement. US cars are set to run on 91 octane fuel and ours on 88 octane. Get a standard Nissan US flash and run 98 RON, and we should see a performance improvement.

I will have a word with Doug from Crawfords. They seem very straight shooters and I would value their opinion.

I don't think that is correct. Reading the manual that came with my Zed, it sais that it should be run on 98RON fuel. It sais that you can run on lower grade fuel in an emergency, but to not stress the engine.

Does anyone know otherwise?

Interesting. When did you take delivery of your car?

My manual, last page, specifies minimum 95RON fuel. In emergencies 91RON may be used (no abrupt acceleration etc).
I wonder if our cars have the same ECU. What version ECU do you have? It is printed on the wiring harness in the front of the motor.

98RON is not readily available accross wheras 95RON "standard" premium fuel is. I don't believe that Nissan could specify 98RON unless it was available everywhere.

Interesting. When did you take delivery of your car?

On the 15th November 2003. The car was build in October.

My manual, last page, specifies minimum 95RON fuel. In emergencies 91RON may be used (no abrupt acceleration etc).

My manual mentions the 98RON 'recommended' fuel for Japan and Australia. Rest of the world is it 95/91RON.

I wonder if our cars have the same ECU. What version ECU do you have? It is printed on the wiring harness in the front of the motor.

I'll take a look tomorrow. I've never looked or noticed before though.

98RON is not readily available accross wheras 95RON "standard" premium fuel is. I don't believe that Nissan could specify 98RON unless it was available everywhere.

I agree, and was surprised to read/hear it. Also my dealer mentioned to me to use 98RON fuel only. I have a feeling that my fuel-cap says it as well ... will check tomorrow.

I was told by the dealer to use 98oct only and I had my car delivered in Feb 2003.

I doubt it's tuned for anything but 95/96 oct which is considered premium all around Australia.

As for the 91 oct fuel it will be fine untill you get on the red line repeatedly on a very hot day.
