350Z Beats RX-8, M3 CSL in Dec CAR PCOTY
I agree with zuff on the compromises.
cas2themoe,
I think your in the wrong forum. Your really wasting your time posting in a 350z forum that you 'think' the RX8 is a better car. 99% of people here have already made up their mind and bought a 350z.
This topic has already been done.

Oh by the way a real sports car has many sport attributes, not just straight line!!!.
Same track, same (pro) driver and on the same day laptimes from Winton track (ie. one with a lot of corners):
- 350Z = 1:43.1
- RX8 = 1:44.7
So yes, there's a lot more to a 'sportcar' then just straighline numbers ... MX5 is a very good sports car.

Yawn! Did i just see a troll in this thread?
It's pretty obvious from every Australian publication and the many Best Motoring races that I've seen that the rx8 isn't to be raced in the same class as the 350z.

cas2themoe, I owned the 350Z (in Melbourne) and my dad got JDM Red Velocity RX8 (Indonesia).
I think both car are great car, but each has different Prespective. These people here in the forum are discussing in term of Performance and power level of the car.
RX8 is has not much Performance and power level that can go head on with 350Z, but RX8 has a comfortable handling and ride. To me RX8 is a Comfortable car to seat and Drive, yet the Fuel usage is too Great to produce such a less power and a Torque that less than the power it's produced.
Also most of Those award you have listed are not much mentioning in term of Performance and Power, but more into the Overall value of Comfort, Storage spaces, etc. Cleary 350Z don't have much of those. Therefore RX8 won, but when you read more of it (without reading the conclusion only) It will said that 350Z will have a lot more power and Torque and performance than RX8.
Also RX8 has a Very low expanditure in improving performance.
eg: Fujitsubo Exhaust for RX8 only increase about 3kw and 3 nm, whereas 350Z Fujitsubo exhaust increase 5kw and 10nm.
As once again you are arguing with people that are more liking the 350Z's looks and performance and power. Yet RX8 still a Great car to drive.
Maybe you should have a look at the Races of the Stock RX8 race in Best motoring (S2000, G35, WRX, Integra Type-R, RX8, MX5) Or Latest Best motoring ( Nismo 350Z GT, Mazdaspeed RX8, M3 CSL, Elise 111R, Renault Clio V6 (MR), Integra Type-r and EVO VIII).
Those video can show you that RX8 is outmatched in the races.
About the engine award. That's only the Technology which impressed me, but it's a pity not so much of Performance.
I hope you understand the different perspective of this Forum here, that people has bought and liking their 350Z. As the same thing you would do with your RX8. Please don't say the 350Z owners always comparing to RX8. when i went to RX8club.com. They did the same thing as well, comparing RX8 to 350Z.
Therefore i still like both of the car that my Family owned
So can we have Peace now?

But to me it’s like almost everybody on this Forum thinks their 350Z is a better sports car based on the pure fact that it has better 0-60 times and that’s it. Is that the only thing that it’s better at? We all know for sure it’s not better on corners. When it comes to power yes do doubt the 350Z would beat a RX8. When it comes to the power of the RX8 you guys have to think before speaking, it’s a Rotary engine and you won't feel the power really kick in til about 3500 RPMS and it’s a 1.3L! Name me a 1.3L engine that can go from 0-60 and 5.9? But to me a sports car has to be fun to drive and have some kick in it. The RX8 has both and 350Z is just Kick and no fun for me at least. I drove one for a whole day and it felt like it wore you out and was only nice when you stomped the gas. I guess I will only be getting one answer from you guys, that a 350Z is a better sports car than any other.

Anyway, we're not here to argue 350Z Vs RX8. We're not interested as we've already made the decision which best suits us. If you want to continue arguing you can do it via PM if anyone's willing.
Both are great cars but are aimed at different markets. I considered the RX8 when shopping around but the Zed suited me better. As for us thinking the 350Z is the best sports car in the world I don't think any of us believe that just as we don't believe the RX8 is the best sports car in the world. Both have their compromises, just in different areas.
EDIT: Oh and BTW I don't cosider the Zed a pure sports car at all and I certainly don't consider the RX8 one either.

Apsilon has already said most things and obvously we here prefer the 350Z, because we made a contious choice not to buy RX8 and get something else instead. I had an S2000 before, and when I was shoppoing for a new car, the RX8 was one of the 1st cars that I crossed off the list. Is it not because I don't think that the RX8 is a good car. That's not it, I like the RX8, but it does not offer what I'm after ... here's a list of what I'm after and you can see that there are other cars out there that offer more for me:
- uncompromized layout (ie. 2 seats and 2 doors)
- body ridgidity (ie. less doors and seats the better)
- hard suspension and minimal roll/dive (ie. track friendly)
- a lot of outright grip (ie. big wheels and tyreswith wheels in an extreme corner of the car as possible)
- great brakes (ie. big brakes and big/good calipers)
- raw straightline speed/punch
- uncompromized sportscar looks
As you can see, the fact the the RX8 has 4 doors, extra 2 seats and is soft(er) makes it a compromized car for me. I only want the car to cater to me (ie. the driver) in terms of perfromance, feel, speed, and handling. The RX8 is no more suitable for me than the Porsche Cayenne ... afetrall, that does all that the RX8 does, but can 4WD as well (ie. even more of a compromize).
If I wantned a 2nd car, one that is practical and one that I can carry more than 2 people, some luggage, be comfortable, quiet and smooth, then the RX8 would be on top of my shopping list. Though, then I'd be after a sedan with sporty overtones ie. 'sports sedan'. As a 'sportcar' cars that fit the bill for me are 350Z, S2000, Elise, Boxster S, 911, M3 CSL, F360, Enzo, Carrera GT. Cars that do not fit the bill are M5, STi, EVO, G35, McLaren Mercedes and RX8. See the difference?
We all know for sure it’s not better on corners.
I think you need to get out to the track, and see what cars corner well and which ones do not. Not that the RX8 does not corner well ... but because of it's 'compromizes' (ie. to fit 4 people, and 4 doors and soft ride), it is a bit 'handicapped' on the track. Since you like magazines, here are 'track test' numbers from a German mag 'Sports Auto' where they compared the RX8 and 350Z on the track against each other. The driver is a pro (ex racer):
RX8:
- Laptime (Hokenkeim KK) = 1:19.8
- Slalom (18m) = 65.8kph
- Braking 100-0kph = 35.6m
- 0-100kph = 6.6sec
- 0-160kph = 16.5sec
- 80-120kph (4th gear) = 7.4sec
350Z Track:
- Laptime (Hokenkeim KK) = 1:18.7
- Slalom (18m) = 66.9kph
- Braking 100-0kph = 35.7m
- 0-100kph = 5.9sec
- 0-160kph = 13.7sec
- 80-120kph (4th gear) = 5.3sec
Just goes to show you which one does better on the track ... which is the measure of the 'perfomance' where all the 'parts' are combined.
When it comes to the power of the RX8 you guys have to think before speaking, it’s a Rotary engine and you won't feel the power really kick in til about 3500 RPMS and it’s a 1.3L! Name me a 1.3L engine that can go from 0-60 and 5.9?
Most of us don't care what engine is in it ... we care how much power/perfromance if has. Afterall, the new Elise has a 1.8L engine with a lot less power and is quicker than than the 350Z, let alone the RX8. So what's in it is not imprtortant. It's how it feels and how much 'perrmance' it packs.
btw, I had an S2000 for almost 3 years, and that engine/car was to my liking. Difference with the RX8 is that it carries extra 100kg, has about 10kW less power, is softer, has extra 2 doors, has extra 2 seats, and has higher center of gravity. Some might view all those as 'good extras', but me, I'd pay good money to have all that removed.
But to me a sports car has to be fun to drive and have some kick in it. The RX8 has both and 350Z is just Kick and no fun for me at least.
That statement demonstrates that you do not really know what you're taking about. If you were talking about the S2000 instead of the 350Z, then you'd have a worthwile argument on your hands. S2000 is more 'pure fun' sports car than the 350Z, and the 350Z is more 'pure fun' sports car than the RX8. If 'sports car' is your criteria, then RX8 comes short. If 'sports sedan' is your crieria, then the RX8 delivers in spades. Heck, the MX5 offers more 'pure sports car fun' than the RX8, and in a way more than the 350Z ... I think you're getting your terminology mixed up as 'pure sports car fun' is not one of RX8's strenghts.
I guess I will only be getting one answer from you guys, that a 350Z is a better sports car than any other.
See there you go again - you're talking about 'sports cars' here. Let's take this to an extreme - do you think that the RX8 is a better 'sports car' than Lotus Elise. Is it a better 'sports car' than Boxster S, or S2000? 'Sports car' means that the car is focused on the driver and makes as few as possible compromizes in terms of comfort, space, ride, packaging etc. It's all about the driver, and raw soeed, braking, grip and handling.

Lack of knowledge is the key to your ignorance. Your car does not have better cornering then a RX8 every professional that has driven both has said so. Yes you have better 0-60 but not cornering. Have you ever seen the Top gear video, I trust their opinions because of how many cars they have tested and their knowledge of all those cars. They have one guy that races them around the track. ONE DRIVER! How can you say that our car isn’t better? We have the exact same track time, when you should be blowing us out of the water! Especially with you specs, RIGHT? What does that say about your car? But we have less of everything but seats right, lol? But still manage to have a fair lap time because of it being the same driver and in that case skill. Please, that’s speaks for itself.
I'm fighting a losing battle because you guys obviously are stuck on your cars and think no car is better! The quality of that car sucks butt, I sat it one and crap was pealing off every where. I mean damn it was only a year old. Your cars are all straight line and looks. That’s it!

OK, you're an idiot ... and I don't say it about too many people. Everyone here has been nice to you and tried to explain to you how different cars suit different people and that the RX8 is not for us. You chose to see what you want, and ignore everything that has been replyed to you.
What do you think about all the lap-tiems that I've posted so far? Somehow you chose to ignore those 2 separate test. If you looked like someone who is actually interested in cars (instead of a troll) then I'd be happy to list another dozen or so track tests that shows the 350Z significantly faster. What about all the other points that I've made and asked? You seem to think that none of us have driven an RX8 ... most of us have (and some even on the track).
As far as ToGear goes, yes it's a nice show, but it's not end all be all of measermant of car's performance. If you go by TopGear then e46 M3 is no quicker than the 350Z, let alone the RX8. If you believe that as well, then you're living in a dream land even more so than you appear.
Signing off until you grow up and gain some maturity. If you want people to talk to you here then at least act like someone who is interested in other peoples' opinions and is willing to entertain other input but their own.

Well at least those comments prove you have NEVER driven a 350z on the track nor probably an rx8.
Do you realise Clarkson is the biggest tool....!!!! No...He is a the biggest useless tool.
Go find some real race car drivers like in Best Motoring and you'll see how the rx8 gets chewed up and spat out by every car on the grid.
Hmmm.. Come to think of it I'm wondering if you even have a license.

You've got no idea. What in the well constructed responses here gave you the impression that we think no car is better than the 350z?
How old are you?
You've sat in a 350z but have you driven one? Or even driven a RX8 for that matter? None of your responses are based on your impressions from driving either of the cars.

I thought we'd resolved this.
Just drop it guys. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and obviously no one is going to change theirs so this arguing over which is the better car is pointless and to be honest who cares? As long as you're happy with your individual choice that's great and it's all you should care about.
Now everyone can drop it or I'll pull out the big stick. And that goes for both sides of the fence, we don't need it here. If you really want to argue the point use the main part of the forum, I'm sure there'll be heaps of willing participants until things go too far and the thread is closed and/or someone is banned.

And those comments exemplify what I feel is lacking in what is sold as a "sports" car.
The Wrex has that wild rush from 3200 to near redline, and make no mistake, it's a huge whallop in the back, whereas the Z has a "genteel", torquey acceleration from near idle to well towards the redline.
Really, the Z wouldn't be too severely disadvantaged by either an auto or a 4 or 5 speed box, since the power is relatively linear as against the Wrex's "rush".
The Wrex needs the 6 speeds to stay on the noise.
Our engine is marvellous in the sedan - whatsits called - but in the Z it makes it only a beaut old fuggers boulevarde cruiser - doesn't seem to matter much which gear your'e in, useable power is on tap.
I'd give my family jewels to have the Wrex's engine style in the Z !
And without apology to the ******** from USA, same goes for the Rx8 except that it's a pretty pissy "rush" - they suffer from the lack of go down low, and an apologetic rush up top.
The Z would be in big trouble with the Wrex's rush and only 2WD in the lower gears. Come on the 275 or bigger rears !

Frosty,
That post would have worked here or in that other thread.
What your describing is a 200sx. 2L 4Cyl Turbo, RWD, 6MT. And it can beat a WRX around different tracks. They are pretty close competiton with the WRX winning on some courses and the 200sx others(Note this comparison info from a couple years ago.).

Giving him the cold shoulder ehh Frosty?
