Thumbs up S-Tune Suspension Impressions

First the install, I decided to do it myself and get the total enjoyment and satifaction of doing it right and get more intimate (informed) with my Zed. It took approx 7 hrs for the surspension and sways, no major problems it was quite straight forward and plus I took my time, did some extra cleaning while I had the chance.

Ok my impressions, it's been three weeks since the install so my thoughts and feeling about this setup are more focused and not just first wow type impressions.

I can honestly state, it has improved the overall ride and handling qualities of the Zed better than I'd hoped, the ride is slightly firmer but far more compliant (a more comfortable ride) if that makes sense maybe something to do with the progress rate springs this kit uses, it does'nt bounce around, it feels more glued to the blacktop and the grip level has, well it's awesome, turnin is responsive and flatter, a joy to drive, the overall cornering ability of the car is enhanced buy at least 20% to 30%.
So far there has been no klunking or other noises from the setup, they say it lowers the car 20mm I'd say it more like 10 - 15mm which suit me fine having the Nismo body kit on the car does decrease the ground clearance anyway.

So is it worth the money, hell yes! it's not an out and out track setup but does makes the 350Z a much better track weapon, specially with my body hugging Recaros in this car, its all good and I just love it, yep a good mod!!

It cost me all up around Aus$3200.

The only down side this it needed another wheel alignment after the install.

What's next, maybe a Rogue Short Shifter, Nismo or Volks rims with better tyres, that should complete the looks and handling department then more power (engine mods).

thnx for the info!

If anything the handling is what gives me the ***** about this car. Maybe this is the road to take, it's just a bit expensive imho.

Nice write up! I love percentages!

Zuff, you could just get the S-Tune suspension and leave the standard sways on there for AU$1550 (not including shipping or duty 15% or gst 10%) which isnt too bad.

Sounds good. One thing I've been wondering about though. What happens when the shock needs to be replaced?

Good to see a new post, was starting to think everyone had left.

I've just expireienced the dreaded bounce this weekend, after pushing the car hard around some conners the car was great, but then I got into a conner with very uneven bumpy surface, and the car felt like it was on ice, no traction what so ever.

I was planing on modifing my intake and exhaust first, but I think I'm going to modify the suspension first.

Aps: I was thinking the same thing. Better make the most of it.

What happens it it needs replacing?
I dont know about NISMO, but you should be able to get replacement Cusco gear , if they make it they should sell the parts for it.

I've forgot to ask, how does your car handle bumpy conners, do you expirience the bounce problem? Have you ever expirienced it before you changed your suspension to nismo?

Regarding installation,

I recently contacted spinning wheels in Woolo as they were suggested by ottonove, but they havnt touched a 350z yet so i didnt want to be a ginnie pig, but they did say they could set up the car for particular race tracks etc. I also phoned Peter
and he quoted ~ an hour a corner for installation.

If you want to save a bit and have the tools why not do it yourself? The only thing you're likely to need and not already have is a spring compressor (be careful) which you should be able to get for under $50

I think id rather spend $280.

I dont want to be flying around corners knowing that I am responsible for putting the suspension together . If it stuffs up and you fly into a tree who will you hold responsible for your 60K car?

Even a non-nissan garage will most likely guarantee their work so if its stuffs up you can blame them etc. Its not an grounding kit we're are talking about here.

Just my opinion.

I know what you mean, though increased wisdom and larger wallet do weigh into these descisions more.

Im getting my wheels put on this weekend Though it wont be lowered till next week probabally, my suspension is in the country but is being processed etc. I dont want to drive around with it before it gets lowered but unaviodable.

If at all possible could you post pics of the suspension before install? Of course pics of everything when done would be nice as well.

Thanks David...... nice review!!! really tempting to move my mind.... hahaa.... but I think I will only go for the sways instead of the shocks as I cannot lower my car anymore, not even 1mm.

It will be nice to see you have a set of Nismo 19" on.... the car will actually look nice... if you are going for Volks what sort of volk are you after? deep dish type? cannot wait to see the complete car!

cheers,

richie

ZZZ-35, good stuff .... are you planning on visiting any local track with that and giving it a good (and proper) workout? I'm probably going to Winton in early May (would like to go in April if I can find a suitable event).

On the question of self install or Nissan doing it, I chooses to do myself as I have no faith in Nissan dealership's level of expertise, for example I had my parkers/city/tail lights fail on me, it took Gary Rogers Nissan 3 days to find that it was a blown fuse ( there is another fuse box under the battery) they have no basic knowlege of the 350Z except how to do a basic service.
The install requires only standard tools plus a torque wrench and you don't need a spring compressor.

Nuff

To answer your question on the bounce issue, there is a right hand bend that I travel very day to work on that has quite an uneven section right on the apex which unsettles the rear of the car to the point of hoping around the bend and if I take it to fast its handfulls of opposite lock, with the new setup I can first take it at a much higher speed and second there is only miner bounce, I think you can't totally eliminate all bounce on a car with firm suspension, but in general the ride is smoother.

DavidM

I was that the Nissan Datsun Sport Car Club last night and will be joining up, they have track days just about every month, there's one at Sandown on the 21st March and then Phillip Island next month I let you know how I go.

Richie

You can fit this setup to your car I have the same body kit, it was design with the body kit and the LM GT4 rims in mind its a perfect match.

Sounds good, can you point me to their event calendar (or wherever you got the info from)? I'm trying to find a Winton event in April/May but having a hard time.

Let me know if/when you going to any events.

I have a friend who only weeks ago was pulled up and defected because there was not 200mm clear space under the lowest part of his car - happened to be the front resonator.
How are you going after lowering?
ps - the h/t resonator needs to be redesigned - it's way too low!
