Default New Car Whats acceptable KM done by the DEALER

well i bought a new car so I am worried they might give me like second hand/demo model etc!!!

whats the acceptable Kilometers for a new car? My friend said it can be like 20km!!! thats a lot of thrashing those dealers done! considering they will tell me to not to thrash it before my first servicing!

I just wanna know what KM was done when you guys picked up the car.

PS. i did not buy a demo model. The dealer said my car was in Brisbane stockyard and it was brand new.

The only KMs a car will have done is on and off the transport and whatever the dealers sends the car to that is considered a dealer option..ie upgrade hi-fi, different wheels or something like that.

I got mine with 3 kms on it. And it got to the dealer with 1km on it. The dealers and his mates took it out for a spin...

IIRC I had 5km. Doubt it'd be out for a spin as it still had all the protective plastic on it, even the wheels.

Zuff's right though. It's only from the factory to the holding yard (could be from factory to transporter then holding yard depending on location) then on to the ship. At our side generally it's then from ship to holding yard to transport to dealer. Dealer may then have to send it around to service (if they share service department with another dealer), detailer, window tinter etc.

Mine had 12km on it. I had to get the Ray's and tint put on.

Don't worry, you'll know if it's a demo as it will have quite a few (perhaps a couple thousand k's) not just a few.

I could be wrong but I don't think even Nisshit will sell a new car and give you a demo!

As always

Hmm i request them to get it have rust proofing and crystal glaze to keep it shinning all year around.

What sux is that my sales mans not working on monday and tuesday so i am getting it on wednesday!! sux it turned from sunday to wednesday!

anyway I live in Blacktown area if anyone around that area who has 350z and wouldn't mind helping out with few tips and stuff let me know. I am total newbie when it comes to cars

I'm in Baulkham Hills so if there's anything you need to know or want to check out let me know.

I wouldn't be too worried. A lot of people believe the way to break it in is to drive hard. I know I went just below redline a couple of times before 1000k and a fair few more before 2000k

If the car is ready I'd go and pick it up. If your salesman isn't there bad luck, they can organise someone else to sign the paper work.

I got mine with 15km on because they needed to do the parking sensor and the window tinting. That's quite acceptable and this is handled very well as I know the boss of my dealership.

cheers,

Mine had 24km on it ... and I was VERY peeved with the dealer. My 200SX was delivered with about 9km. Only let it go because at the time had gotten a "fleet discount" when Nissan supposedly would not discount.

That rust proofing is a scam, the woman was trying to sell it to me and i'm like "so I pay $60K and the car doesn't have rust proofing?" and she's like oh yes it does from the factory but we do a more thorough job. Ha! What a scam.

Did anybody buy those floor mats that cost several hundred dollars?

Which ones are those? If they're the fitted carpet ones that's one of the accessories I had them throw into the deal. Didn't realise (or see how) they're worth that much.

There are a few types of floor matts, I have ones with a soft zed logo on them, but there are also some really expensive ones which have a metal Z logos on them. The dealer said no one gets them, I considered them for about 2 seconds, then got the other ones which look fantastic anyway.

Oh I remember those. I could've had them but I remember thinking the metal will just get all scratched up over time and look crap.

I had soft mats and tint 'thrown in'.

Heel Indentation in soft mat, almost through it already. Left foot.

BTW I replaced front h/t seat bolts and increased height adjustment by approx 1". Needed thigh support, I'm only 182cm, so no giant.

I will probably do same to the passenger side. I had the discomfort of riding in it recently, it is so low and flat.

Z's are via boat into Port Botany. Then they are taken (probably driven) to a place near Botany where they have work done on the radio (possibly fitted). From there it should be onto a truck for transportation to your dealer. Dealer will have to drive it to the appropriate shop for tint etc. So by the time you get the car, it really should not have more than 10km on it.
If your dealer has a Z on the floor, then I would not worry about them thrashing it as the sales gut would do that to their demo model. Probably the only hard driving it would cop would be from a young guy from the service dept who may have to take it to the tint shop and perform a road test. Either way, I would not worry if the car has 2-3km of hard driving.
I reved mine to 5.5k rpm on the afternoon I took delivery.
Enjoy the car.

I wouldnt be too concern with the delivery kms on new car.
My family owned a few Mercedes and I know the people in the dealership pretty well, they told me every Merc can have the clock reset to zero kms for three times up to a certain kms, and they even teach me how to do it!! so I could hv a few less kms on the clock when I sell my car.
I wouldnt be suprised if Nissan hv the same "feature"... thats if they actually want to know how to do it
so a clock stating zero kms doesnt always mean it hasnt be driven.

for your record, a new Porsche is "tested" by the service people at 200kmh before delivery, and they said revving the car from new will ware out the engine evenly compare to those driving slowly when its new
