Default Importing tires

Are there any problems importing tires? I'm thinking about importing some tires since the prices I've been quoted here in sydney are crazy.

Warranty. The tyres will not be covered by warranty.

AFAIK there is no problem Nuff. Just check out the prices beforehand though. I was looking at a US site this morning and by the time you add on taxes etc it's probably not going to be that much cheaper.

Dont forget taxes and ***** add about 30% to the cost.

As always

Murray, from what I recall you have imported tires with your wheels. Did you have any problems?

Harry, I might be able to get around the taxes, so they wouldn't be too much of a problem, but I've to check shipping costs.

I've emailed the guy and asked him about prices for Michelin Pilot Sports including shipping, the sizes I've asked for are 245/40-18 and 275/40-18.

He usually takes some time to reply so be patient. I've also mentioned a possibility of a group buy.

I've never looked but there are certain markings that must be present for it to meet ADRs and therefore be legal. That's why if you import a car from Japan for example the tyres must be replaced as part of the compliancing.

Peter P might be a good one to talk to about this. IIRC his workshop used to (still does?) compliance imported FTOs or something along those lines.

Nuff, as per my previous post.

When I took my car into Jax the guy did some search and found that my tyres are not covered by warranty, though im sure the guy I bought my wheels/tyres off would help if I had any issues.

If you do it yourself though you would have trouble holding someone accountable, you'd need to ship the tyres back to where you got then they might help you.

Where have you been getting quotes from? Stay away from Bob Jane, Jax and the like.

Ive dealt with Bob Jane, Jax, Ozzy Tyres and Donnellans. And the smaller people like Ozzy and Donnellans have always had better prices. That said though there is hardly ever one perfect solution and your best bet is to ring everyone until you find the best price.

I am currently waiting on a price for X2 new Volks and X2 new S03s for my car from Donnellans.

nuff.

I assume these are not for the standard wheels as 275's will require a minimum of a 9" wide wheel from memory. I think the largest tyre is a 255 for the 8"

no they are not the standard wheels, I'm getting some aftermarket wheels. I'm trying to get the same tyres on all 4 wheels. Either 275's or 265's.

Here's a list of tyres sizes for Michelin Pilot Sports.

Because I've forgot to add them. I'm planning to add a lot of things and with the wheels I've not decided on sizes yet. I'm scouting around for sizes and prices. Also on my car I need to make sure the wheels clear the brembos.

Its getting big nuff. You'll be charged rent soon, or just charged.

Im going to have to get some tyres that are not approved by the ADR. I want larger than 245 in the rear on my 8.5" wheel because down grading from 275 to 245 is too far and it makes me want to cry. Options are:

255X40X19 or 265X30X19.

Jax reckon getting the S03 265 tyre on the rim could be difficult with the hard sidewall. They didnt have the easiest time getting the other S03 tyres on last time I was there! And 255 arent allowed here for some reason, so i think i'll go around the ADR and import some.
