Default 350Z has a big ****?

The 350Z, to me, has always been a beutifull looking car, but the rear end never fully agreed with me. It just seems a bit too big and I've always thought it would look better if the car was about 15cm shorter in the rear. ie. shorter over-hang at the rear. Look how deep the rear number-plate sits-in, and picture the budywork stopping at the number plate and not going any further.

So, I had a few minutes up my sleave so I figured lets see what it would look like. Concidering that I just 'fundged' it, I'm not sure if it an improvement ... but this is what I had in mind.

Here is the edited pic (ie. the rear overhang is abut 10 - 15cm shorter):

chopping it makes it look too much like the chrysler crossfire.

keep the car the way it looks.

I like the original too! That never bothered me.

I just wished that got the weight down to 1250kg. Alas all cars are getting heavier. Even the rex and EVO have put on many pounds.

Agree with you Zuffy on the weight issue.

The Z's rear end is phat!

I love the looks of the Z all around.

DavidM - looking at the photos above, it appears that Nissan should have made the rear overhand the same size as the front. Currently, the rear looks a little longer that the front.

Your photochop image shows a slightly smaller rear than front overhang. IMO, somewhere in between the OEM and your photo would have been ideal.

Still, I think the Z is a very sexy looking design when it comes to sports cars.

I like big butts and I can not lie
you other brothers can't deny
that when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waste
and a round thing in your face
you get sprung!

Like someone already mentioned, if the end were to be shorter it would like a dog squatting to chuck a sh*t (just like the chrysler crossfire).

p.s I love the 350z ****. In the words of a brutha - it's phat!

Shamelessly stolen from carsales.com.au

A wide-body 911 has a 'nice shape' ****. The Renault Megane is a bit too much **** for my liking. All comes down to personal preferrence, but I would not complain if the Zed lost some size from it's **** ... not that much from the back view, but from the side profile. From the back (IMHO) it only needs a bit more definition (ie. less of that roundness, and more of an edge).

I made up another version - this one has no **** at all .... car's like Elise and McLaren F1, and Murchielago have no rear overhang ... the Alfa seem to be going that way as well.

A 350Z like this would be at good 20 - 25cm shorter:

Its a comment that one of my friends has made about my car too.

I don't know..I prefer the longer overhangs in terms of looks (from your Photochops). However, if shortening the overhangs improves the polar moment of inertia.....shorten away. Substance first.

Too short mate!

Now that I have compared all three, I'm begining to think that your original photoshop image suits the car best.
I finally appreciate the point you're trying to make with the thread.

None the less, I still love my Z because it looks so much nicer that all the other drab cars I see on the road each day.

I agree ... if I had to pickone, than the 1st one is the one that appeals the most to me ... that one looks to be in proprtion. I posted the 3rd one just for the heck of it ... it's interesting how a look of the car changes by doing something so simple as playing with the car's bumber.

Well, that's what car designers have to deal with on a daily basis. Any old designer can make a sexy looking car, but usually, the designers have to style the car around the constraints of the engine / suspension / drivetrain / number of seats, including head, shoulder, knee, ankle, foot and toe room / pre-detremined luggage space requirements / crumple zones etc.

Suddenly that gorgeous 2 door sports car the designer had drawn up to impress the boss starts looking like a 4 door sedan once marketing get involved
