Road Atlanta prep checklist
Happy Holidays all,
Does anyone have or know where I can find a track
prep checklist for my Z? It will be my first trip to Road
Atlanta in January and I want to get the Z in shape over
the holidays. Things I think I need (other suggestions
would be appreciated):
- prep checklist
- bolt torque table
- suggestions on number material (magnetic, vinyl, etc)
- helmet recommendations
- use the nose mask or not
Thanks and have a great new year.

While I wait for Santa, I'll try and help....
The only torque spec you NEED, is for the lug nuts, which is 73-93 ft lbs. I torque to 85 ft lbs.
I am one of the few here who has had great luck with magnetic #'s. I got mine from www.solotime.com
I have been using a Bell Sport 3 helmet with good luck.....
I have a clear bra that has held up well for 2 years. Some clubs do not allow the removable type.
Most clubs require you to remove the wheel center caps.....do this ahead of time.
Bleed your brakes with a high temp brake fluid. I use Motul RBF600. Racing grade pads are strongly recommended.
Here is a copy of the check-list I've been using:
1) 2 low ramps
2) Tool Box
3) Extra Brake Fluid & Extra Oil
4) Hand Cleaner
5) Wash Bucket
6) Wash Towels
7) Windex
8) Paper Towels
9) Bell Helmet
10) Racing Gloves
11) Event Schedule
12) Cooler/Block of Ice/Pop/Water
13) Digi Cam
14) Clean Air Filter
15) Tarp
16) Cash/Checkbook
17) Racer Tape
18) Folding Chair
19) Spare Brake Pads
20) Race #’s
21) Extra Cigarettes
22) Spare Eye Glasses
23) Temp Probe
24) Spare Ignition Key
25) Masking Tape
26) Lug Nut Adapter Socket
27) Tire Air Pressure Gauge
28) Rain Jacket
29) Umbrella
30) Tow Hook
31) Blanket
Hope you don't need #21
Road Atlanta is an awesome track! Remember you are there to LEARN, and you will. A positive attitude is a must, and remember, HAVE FUN!!!!
Wish I were joining you.....I have to wait till......late April!

You might want to visit Ron Zappendorf at www.discoveryparts.com . They are located on either Buford Hwy or P'tree Ind. just north of 285 and sell helmets, magnetic numbers, and lots of other track supplies.
What organization are you running with down there? That can sometimes effect what you need on your checklist.
Is it an HPDE event, open track? Is this your first time on track? etc, etc.
Here are a few things that generally apply to all on-track events:
Snell Rated helmet - most clubs are now requiring SA rated helmets (i.e. no motorcycle helmets) but this does vary from club to club. If you're planning on buying, definately go Snell SA2000
Brake fluid - the above suggestion of Motul600 is a good one. AP Racing makes some good stuff as well. Just don't use DOT5. Always have extra fluid on hand in case you need to bleed your brakes. Nothing worse than your weekend being cut short for lack of pads or fluid (just ask Mc350z)
Brake Pads - as long as you have high-temp fluid, a good quality street/track pad should suffice. Racing pads are good, but to work their best they have to reach an optimum temperature before they work properly. Also they are extremely expensive - IMO better to have two $60 sets of pads than one $120 set.
Small jack & stands (to change above pads as necessary)
Quality tire pressure gauge
Extra oil & antifreeze
Most clubs also have a safety checklist for their events. Check with the host club. If they don't, it'd be a good idea to have it done anyway. Here's a copy of our safety inspection checklist:

Have fun... and watch out for those walls at Road Atlanta!

Thanks all,
Just got back from the holidays and thought I had
my tool box filled up and ready to go. Looks like I
need to add some items. Thanks for all the great
suggestions.
Have a safe and happy New Year.
