Default Avon Tech R tires

I may be picking up a set of used 17x9 +27 MB Motorsports Competition wheels. These come wrapped with Avon Tech R tires, which are R compounds. New, they come at 4/32nds. Apparently they're down to 2/32nds now. How much longer would you guys think these would last? Also, has anybody had any experience with these, or heard anything about them?

Info. from TireRack on these tires

Your input is much appreciated!

i've not heard great things about them. they're r compounds, but the 710's are stickier and ra-1's are more durable, and about the same or possibly stickier. this is second or third hand info, so i can't swear to it, but i haven't heard any raves for the avons. OTOH, they're on the wheels, and probably have a couple weekends left on them depending on your level of aggression, track surface, track temperature, and alignment of the planets. IMO wear levels differ dramatically because of all those factors, so estimating life is quite difficult unless you've got first hand experience with those tires, on that car, running on known tracks, in consistent weather.

I was unable to use these on my OEM 18" spare set (don't make 'em yet), so I had to go with Dunlops this year. I was planning on reshoing the 18's with a street tire, and racing on the 17's next year. However, the Dunlops are kick butt, so I may just stay where I am.

I'd be very interersted in feedback on this Avon's. In European circles, these are the best tires to have for quick heatup and stability. Most compliment them on longevity as well.
