Default Potential Rule Changes in Canada

My AutoX club is considering adopting SCCA Solo rules.

My current setup is 2003 350Z Track with:
-K&N Drop-In Filter
-Azenis RT-615 245/40/18 & 255/40/18
-Track rims: Front 18X8, Back 18X8.5 (I think... can someone verify?)
-Injen Cat-Back Exhaust
-Hotchkis Front & Rear Sways

What's the best place for me to be competitive... B-Stock, STX, STU?

B Stock:
-I put the stock rear-sway back in.
-Do I keep stock wheels at 18lbs each, or go aftermarket?
-Do I go with A6s or V710s or some other comp tire? What size?
-Konis? Tokico?

STX:
-Does the 350Z qualify in this class?
-If my rear rims are 8.5" then I need to get another pair of front rims at 8"?

STU:
-Can our car be competitive without spending a WHACK of cash?

I'll keep researching, but if anyone has quick answers, it'd be appreciated.

Depending on local competition, you would probably be more competitive in BS than BSP. I don't believe you can run the Z in STX or STU. Those are for 4 seaters.

The track wheels are fairly light, in fact I'm collecting a set right now so I can use them next season with some RT-615s also. And yes, you have the wheels widths correct for the Track model.

BSP is definitely out...

BS seems to be the way to go, but then I have to run Rs to be competitive. Everyone's pretty much on V710s and A6s. But...
1) I don't want to have to drive there, THEN change wheels.
2) Those two tires don't seem to have any friendly sizes for the 350Z stock rims... other than 245/40/18 A6s
3) Those are pretty pricey tires and the A6 might not even last a season.

As for STX, this is what came off of the SCCA website:
Coupes/Sedans - 4 seats minimum except sports car-based
Engine size (maximum)
- 5.1L normally aspirated or
- 2.0L forced induction (single turbo/supercharger)
STS Rules plus STX allowances/restrictions

Would "except sports car-based" mean 350Z are allowed???

I don't know the technicalities, but there is no way an 350z would ever fit into STX and anybody agree with it.

Stock is the way to go. the best tire sizes for the stock track wheels are either going to be the 275 in a6, 245s in a6 or 710, or 285 in the 710 or a6, a6 being easier to fit.

When they say "except sports car based" they mean 4 seat cars that are based on sports cars, like the datsun 2+2 and all porsches, are not allowed. As of right now there is no "street tire" class for the Z.

You're best bet is BS.

Another option is to get your club to run a tire class. This is a PAXed based class that allows any car on street tires (ST legal) to compete with other street tired cars, even if they're not in the same class. example: AS and GS (or any other class) can compete with each other based on PAX times.

That's how it works right now... 6 divisions

Stock Street
Stock R
SuperStock Street
SuperStock R
StreetPrepared & Modified Street
StreetPrepared & Modified R

Using PAX as the equalizer...

There are a fair number of differences between SCCA & CAC rules. We have a number of talented drivers here that are wanting to give you guys a run for your money (Noel placed 2nd in FS in Topeka) so we're thinking of adopting SCCA rules.

Stay in BS... Your only other choices would be BSP and SM2...

Put 285s all the way around on the stock track rims. Hoosiers will fit easily. You must get the 5mil spacer up front to keep from rubbing and it is legal.

If you are thinking of shocks go Koni...

I'm curious...does stock street use street tires (treadwear limited) and stock r use r-comps, hoosier or kumho?

Are you're modifications considered stock or superstock?

You're in the same boat I'm in, I have to be able to drive to events, so R compounds are out and the RT-615s are the next best thing.

What do you have to compete against in BS in your area?

That's correct...

I'm stock as I've used 2 points for the sway bars. Here's a summary of our current classification system.

Have you thought about fabricating a trailer hitch? I saw one on this forum that was completely hidden that I might consider if I want to get REALLY competitive... and drive down to the US to compete.

What pressures are working for you with the RT-615s? I'm running 42/38... but am wondering if there's something better.

The only other BS cars that run are a 350Z on Victoracers and a rookie in a mini... so I get grouped with all stock cars on street tires. I'm second in the standings right now with two events to go with my competition being...
'97 Miata
'98 BMW 318
'90 Miata
'97 Miata
'05 A4 Quattro TT
'03 Mustang
'05 A4 Quattro TT
'06 Mustang
'05 S2000
'00 Miata
'04 WRX STI
'05 Mustang GT
'03 BMW 530
'99 Integra
there's a bunch more, but these are the regulars

You will need to take your aftermarket sway bar off the rear to be BS legal. Only the front sway bar can be replaced to stay in stock class per SCCA. Your cat back and wheels/tires are all within the rules. Unfortunatly we are not allowed in any street tire class. STX, STU and STS2 all have provisions that exclude Z's. You will get killed in BSP or SM2 and they run R compounds as well. I wish we used rules similar to yours here in the states.

I've seen the trailer hitch but due to budget constraints, that won't be an option for another year or more.

I don't have my RT-615's yet, will probably be getting them before next season starts.
