Flashing the ABS Controller Unit
Just got back from the Ranch (Motor Sport, Cresson) and was told that if a big brake kit was installed on a non-bembo car that the ABS Controller Unit needs to be re-programmed.
Is this true?
If so how do you do it?
Thanks in advance.

Never heard of such a thing either.
From all the reading I've done the big brake kits are designed to work with the factory break system but no distinction was made as to there was a difference between brembo or non brembo systems.

OK. Thanks for the feed back.
I got the advise from a friend who builds Porsche Cup cars.
Put a Wilwood 6 piston radial mount caliper and rotor on the car. Not a kit, but something a friend (Professional Race Engineer, suspension is his specialty) put together. When I was bedding the pads felt the threshold of the ABS kicking in like never before with the stock system. Felt like a big jolt.
Best way is to run a few laps at MSR in the next couple of days. Looking forward to running a straight 30 mintues without slowing down to cool the brake system.
Next the rear brakes.

A lot more brake on the same tires , i'll bet the abs would kick in pretty easily. Our ABS senses wheel speed , if a wheel starts to skid its going to kick in , no matter what calipers you have.
It would be nice if someone figured out how to reprogram the ABS computer as the ABS system on the car really sucks due to the low cycle rate. If someone could reprogram it for a higher cycle it would work a lot better on the track. Supposedly the cars running in the Super Taikyu series in Japan have a special Nismo tuned ABS computer but no one in the states seems to be able to get their hands on one.
You may have the balance messed up front to rear and one end may be locking up early and causing ABS to trigger. In the old days, before ABS, something like this would have the tail end coming around on you and nasty stuff like that.
One of the things that reputable brake companies do is match piston volume to stock master cylinder so the balance is not upset front to rear or give overly long pedal travel or require to much force.

Thanks this is the type of really good information that I was looking for. I really like it when someone comes up with this type of information. You are my hero for today.

Still have not gone out to the track to give the system a good work out.
