Thumbs up 17's and BBK's???

who says BBK's won't fit under a 17" wheel???? muahahahaha!

these are the 14" rotor, ST-40 caliper; wheels are 17x9 +15; no spacers! i didn't say no modification needed though i had to shave off a few thousands from the bridge only. other than that, i can fit one, maybe two pieces of paper in there!

I wonder if St60's will fit. I know some 355 6 piston kits will fit under 17's.

Yes, those style wheels (Gram light replica's) will fit most any 355mm bbk, but not alot of 17" wheels will clear.

with only enough clearance for one or two pieces of paper i would still be a little bit concerned under hard braking. i've read that the caliper can move up to 1/4 inch under hard braking. can anyone back that up??? not to mention air movement.

well, i don't know about 1/4 inch movement, but the calilper definitely moved! i took it out to willow springs yesterday (before the rain) and ran it pretty hard. there are light scratch marks on the inside of the wheel. the bridge made slight contact and i will have to shave a little more off with a dremel (when i mean a little, i mean like a couple of thousdandths). the movement may be due to hub flex. even with the slight contact, the brakes performed well and i was quite happy with it. and no, i couldn't hear it or feel it make contact.

Which part is the bridge? Is it on the caliper itself or where it mounts?
I have the same BBK and want to get another set of track wheels and if I can fit 17's that would be awesome.

Any chance you could post pictures of the scratches inside the wheels, and were you running R comp tires? The reason I ask is because the more hub flex you get, the more chances of the caliper rubbing if it stays static but the wheel doesn't.

My 18" OEM wheels barley clear my the Stoptech 14" BBK.

Thanks.

Oh and is this on the front only or on the rear as well with the ST45 caliper?

Thanks.

When you say bridge you mean the removable bridge piece in the middle correct?

the bridge is what holds the pads in place. i was not running r-compound tires, but will when my kumho's wear out. this BBK has exceeded the capacity of those tires.

here are some pics for ya:

also, after looking closer at the bridge, i noticed that it didn't sit flush with the caliper at all, which is why it made contact with the wheel. the template has it sitting flush. it seems as if stoptech drilled the hole a little lower, it would have fit better. but this may then prevent the bridge from sitting flush because of the pads.

I'm glad someone finally did this. I've always wondered how tight the 14" rotors will be on 17" rims. I've been researching the various 355mm front kits (MR group buy in particular) and glad to see pictures on how tight it really is. The other option I'm looking at is the Wilwood 4pot 13.6" front kit that will definitely clear 17" rims.

i bought the setup used, so i didn't feel too guilty about it. plus it's no show car and i needed a few more "track scars." i just couldn't justify getting a BBK with only a 13" rotor. i mean, our rotors are already 13". sure, a two piece would be an improvement, but the heat dissipation characteristic of a 14" is a lot better. at least that's what i tell myself to help me sleep better
