USF1 team
I must admit, the fact that Peter Windsor is staking his professional reputation on this seems to give it a lot of credibility. However, there are a few reasons I see this as being exceptionally difficult.
1) F1 is, and always has been an esoteric sport to Americans. This could change, but it would require significant changes that I can go into later.
2) This team is running into the sport just as numerous other parties (teams, sponsors, etc) are doing everything they can to pull out. The economic climate is simply not suitable for a new team to start from scratch.
3) Geographically, although Charlotte is a mecca for American motorsports, its definitely not on the map for European racing. Britain, much and to a lesser extent Italy, has traditionally been the home of F1 teams. Toyota is having enough trouble keeping its staff happy at their facility in Germany, so I can only begin to imagine the difficulty a team in the US might experience with its personnel.
4) Testing there are only a few tracks in the US that would be desirable F1 test venues, and only a handful of those few are decently close to Charlotte. However, most F1 teams do a lot of testing in Spain, and this hasn't really seemed to slow them down, so this might not be as big an issue as I am think it is.
Other than that it should be smooth sailing!

I'm hoping for the smooth sailing part.
They have said they intend to do most of their testing in Spain, so there goes my plan to attend public practice sessions around here. Either way, I'm just glad to see someone making a concerted effort to represent the United States in the grandest of auto racing series, again.
