Redline Time Attack Round 2!
Berk Technology we just ran one of the most successful race weekends you could ask for! Since this was going to be the last Redline Time Attack on the west coast until September we decided to bring out the full arsenal of the Berk cars. One last hurrah!!
We brought out 3 of our marquee platforms, BMW 135i, Honda S2000, & Toyota MR2 Turbo, all packed with go fast bits from Berk Technology and the driving talent of of the Berk team. 3 cars, 3 top 5 finishes with a 1st place street class RWD win!
These cars are prepped with just a few well placed mods that any weekend warrior can purchase off the shelf and install in their own garage (for the most part!). Just add some driver skill!
For those of you who are not familiar with the Redline Time Attack racing circuit it is the premier road racing circuit in North America. The series brings the fastest tuning shops in the world in head to head competition to see who can lay down the fastest lap times. If you think you are fast, this is the place to test yourself and machine. We even have a Formula team with a multi million dollar a year budget stepping into the series this year to prove their worth.
On to the results!
1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo - Driver: Jeremy Croiset - 1:32.399
1st Place Street RWD
First time out in this car and zero aero mods! Suspension mods are limited to KW V3 coilovers and ST sway bars. The rest of it happens with the Berk Technology GT3076R turbo kit, built stroker motor, Berk custom trunk mount intercooler, & custom Berk single exhaust w/ cat (to meet the rules of Time Attack)
Next is the car that should make us all proud owners, the Berk Technology 135i!
2008 BMW 135i - Driver: Jeff Tyler - 1:34.241
5th Place - Street RWD
Mods:
Berk Technology 3" downpipes
Berk Technology Exhaust system
KW Variant 3 coilovers w/ Vorshlag Camber Plates
Enkei NT03
Dunlop Direzza Star Specs
V Fiber Front air dam & side skirts
HP Autowerks LSD & Final Drive
Burger JB3
Code3 FMIC
The only benchmark for performance against another BMW at this event was a turbocharged widebody E46 M3 that ran in the modified class using sticky R-Comp tires. They were running 1:38.438 vs our 1:34.241, a huge difference especially when you consider that we are still running street tires vs. race tires! Last year another 135i ran at this track for the SuperLap Battle with a 1:37.283. So do I think we did well? Hell yes!
Next we have:
2004 Honda S2000 - Driver: Charles Ng - 1:33.850
4th Place Street RWD
Power Mods:
Berk Technology HPC coated header
Berk Technology 70mm exhaust w/ muffler delete
Berk Technology 70mm HFC
Spoon air scoop
Suspension/Aero/Tires:
Dunlop Direzza Star Spec 255/40/17
Enkei RPF1
KW Variant 3 Coilovers
FX Motorsports Development Springs
APR Front Splitter
Voltex Wing
Carbonetic LSD
This is a true daily driver that sees LA traffic, errant shopping carts, pot holes, and speed bumps on a daily basis! Shrink the wing by 2" and the car is 100% legal for the stock class. Even though we were bested by the Evasive & DSport S2000, Charles drove the Berk S2000 just about as fast as it could have gone with the limited mods.
Changing the tires on Saturday's practice. A fresh set of Dunlop Star Specs were run for race day.
Final Results for the street RWD class:
1st Place - Berk Technology - Toyota MR2 Turbo - Jeremy Croiset
2nd Place - Evasive - Honda S2000 - Rob Walker
3rd Place - DSport - Honda S2000 - Robert Choo
4th Place - Berk Technology - Honda S2000 - Charles Ng
5th Place - Berk Technology - BMW 135i - Jeff Tyler
More pics from the event:
FX Motorsports Development NSX driven by Billy set a new track record. 1:18.555! These guys are getting faster and faster!
1st Place Unlimited
The C-West S2000 was fast as always. It takes me about 30 minutes to change the oil on a car start to finish. I've seen these guys change the head gasket in that time.
2nd Place Unlimited
Fontana Nissan looks to be working the bugs out of their V8 powered 350Z. They definitely get the award for the cleanest and nicest hauler setup ever. They even have flower pots set up in their eating area. These guys look to have the same budgets as the World Challenge challenge teams.
A Berk Technology sponsored 370Z from DoubleDown Motorsports. This is a near stock car that easily fits into the stock class rules. Stock header, stock exhaust, stock seats, stock diff, etc. not even race pads! Their only engine mods are Berk HFC's, JWT Intake! Suspension mods by BC Racing & SPL parts. Even with a stock class car running in street class they ran a quick 1:37.286.
There was one other 135i at the event but they were not running the car in the race. Hopefully we'll see more 135i/335i BMW's in competition at future events. The more we race these cars, the more parts are developed, the better we understand the chassis, & the faster our cars get!

Looks like a good time! I'm bummed they aren't coming to Laguna Seca this year. Quick question - were any of the cars owner-driven? Is that still the street class rule?
EDIT: I found their rule book, and determined that the new STOCK class requires the registered owner to drive the car. This is just the class I was waiting for, as the old Street Class - which did require the reg'd owner to drive the car - also allowed engine swaps, FI, etc. The stock class allows Garage Joe to drive his own car and be competitive, which is nice. I still wish they'd go to Buttonwillow (versus the glorified autox of Streets of Willow), Thunderhill, or Laguna Seca.
