Getting the new car out on track at CMP
lol, There is actually a bracket holding the phone, the strap is just an extra measure of security. The HTC is doing data collection through a program called RaceChrono. This version is a little different than the one available for download because I am doing a bit of beta testing and requirements specifications...
...What is available is 20hz sampling for OBII and GPS. This is from a 5 hz sampling rate and a tri-axle accelerometer...
...You can also create a gauge cluster overlay. I tried to make the gauges look like the ones in the car. It's pretty easy to make your own...

Thanks Marty! Does the beta version you're testing have it's own OBDII support or are you running something they recommend? Also what are you doing for GPS? I have the Verizon varient and can't access the bultin GPS without flashing to another carriers ROM. They say on their site that an external GPS receiver is a better bet anyway. What do you think of it thus far, seems they have maps for two of the tracks I would frequent most (VIR and SP Main).
For GPS, I tested it using both internal HTC 1hz sampling and also Garman Bluetooth 5hz unit. The times were VERY close to each other. I actually recommend the Qstarz units. Inexpensive and very good.
As far as maps go, the available maps are ok, but they lack good segments. I prefered to run a session, create a map and add traps. The cool thing is you can run the session with out a map and create it afterwards and it will create the lap and segment times afterwards once you add start and finish lines. So there is no prerun prep time.
The system does have the ability for OBDII data logging but not system connections. The recomended unit for that is OBDKey Bluetooth version. This feeds directly into the software.

That's a great feature with the map creation! I was afraid I'd be limited to getting beneficial data only from tracks they already had maps for.

yeah, it will be much better once I actually start using the all of the track instead of just the middle of it...

I am usually pretty good about using all of the real estate but I was seriously wimping out on the first day. I was also guilt of turning in too early in several spots. I will have that fixed before my first regional in Nov. or at least I hope to.

Haha good one! When I have free time, I'm guilty of taking drives with no general direction or destination, and pretty often I end up somewhere I've never been. Occasionally I stumble upon a road that's a "hidden treasure" but by the time my cruise is over I can't remember where it was or how I got there lol, could help prevent that in the future as well I suppose.
