need autocross wheels/tire, any advice?

I am just getting into autocross ive done it about three times now and it is so addicting. and when i bought my Z the guy befor me had already built it perfectly for the track with tein coilover, sways, brembo's, volks, and a few power mods. but i think i need some R-compound tires.. so ive been looking at getting a separate pair of track wheels and R-compound tires.. maybe 17x9 or 9.5 all around with 275s, or 18x9 or 9.5 all around with 275s.
Made up my mind.. im getting5Zigen FN01R-C Wheel 17x10 offset- +25 with TOYO R888's 275/40/17 or any other street drivable r-comp tire.. ill look into that more.

R6's/A6's are in a different class in terms of grip from r888's (100 treadwear vs 40). Can't go wrong with rpf1's.......if these are track wheels why do you care about how aggressive the offset is?
Don't want to throw a wrench in your plans ... but if you have only done three AutoX sessions I suggest you don't go to R-compound yet. Take it easy and enjoy the first season and buy more seat time. If you want to improve times, try doing a AutoX school with SCCA or something. They charge like 60 bux for it.

I've done both (EVO school and local SCCA school). I did not think that you get so much more out of EVO. But then one of the instructors in EVO school was a local SCCA member for us and he happened to be my instructor at the local SCCA school as well. I did the SCCA school about a month before doing the EVO.
So if you consider I paid 265$ for EVO vs 60$ for SCCA, I felt EVO was expensive.

Agreed, and RPF1s rock. High offsets are good (and often needed) for big(ger) tires. If you decide on 17s, I have a full set of 275/40/17 Hoosier R5s for sale. R888s are a good balance to drive to/from events, and can autox and track.

-front: 19x9.5 offset +28
-rear: 19x10.5 offset +25

can you go more in depth in the difference of the R- comp tires? currently im running 275 toyo T1R's in the front and 275 Falken FK452's in the back, and they seem pretty grippy. My main reason for getting track wheels besides better grip is to help conserve the life of my street tires.

i agree with you that some sort of driving school would benifit me, but why not go ahead and get R-comps? i mean the basics and seem to do pretty well out there..

Square: tends towards oversteer (more front grip)
Staggered: tends towards a push/understeer (less front grip).

These are an intermediary b/w the 140-200 extreme performance street tires and the full face 40 treadwear hoosiers, but are still an "R" compound. They are treaded and obviously do better in the rain than the hoosiers. They also last longer, but at the expense of less grip than the hoosiers. Some people, particularly in drier climates, run the 100 treadwear tires on the street as well.

You should be fine.....how much lower than stock are you? I do know of people that put hoosiers on and drive too autox/track events, but the treadwear is such that most wouldn't because of the cost. NT01's are little cheaper and I've heard mostly positive reviews on them.
ok thanks, i think ill probably end up going down the r888 route, since it would be convenient to be able to drive to the events, rather than some how transporting my track wheels to the event.

I ran a small shim spacer in the front because the 275 Hoosiers are wider than most other 275s. You should look in the wheels for sale forum - those wheels are in there a lot and that is a common size.

Even with your fenders rolled....a 2" drop could cause some rubbage with a 275 front, but I can't say for sure as my car is only lowered an inch. Keep in mind the compression of the suspension under load will drop the car even more on any given corner.
