What series are you racing? Time attack or Solosprint.

A real LSD is free in Solosprint if the car has a viscous LSD, what about that. I would think a wing isn't much benefit accept at MIR to keep the rear planted in the highspeed downhill corners.

Anyway, in an attempt to race in the lowest class possible, Im only doing the 'free' mods, with 1 left over point I can use up before being bumped up. Look to some of the experienced track stars here to give me advice on the best way to use it.

Here are some of my options:

-Rear wing (any size/material)
-front and rear diffusers
-removal of passenger seat
-plenum upgrade (any)
-front or rear sway bar change (only one though)
-test pipes

Here's what the car will already have under free mods, relevant to the topic:

-HFC
-spare tire/tools/floor mats removal
-JWT intake
-18x9 RPF1, r888 tires (not shaved)
-XP12/10 pads, blank rotors, non-brembo OEM, Brake ducts, SS lines, etc
-Solid/harder bushings where ever I can fit them (trans, engine, rear diff, etc)
-New struts (non adjustable)
-assume otherwise stock.

Based on this information, would I get much use out of a rear wing? The tracks raced on will vary and include some pretty high speed tracks, as well as slower more technical. I have never personally used a rear wing, so just wondering if its worthwhile with stock suspension and stock power level.

Thanks for any input

What year is the car, if its an 04.5 and older i would seriously look into undating the spring to the newer ones.

Both solosprint (gt2) and various time trial events. And its an '03, and I would LOVE to change the spring rates, but that would bump me up in class, and for budget reasons I want to run as low as possible

Interesting thoughts, thanks for the feedback. I have done literally nothing with aero before, so its good to get some advice on the topic. I may still try out a few different things and see how the car feels. I can replace A arms, and increase camber, but those are 1 point each unfortunately lol. But again, I may end up putting a roll bar in to save a point and have some more wiggle room.

Or I will suck it up, stop being a cheap ***, and run a higher class with a new suspension lol.

Would OEM springs off a newer 350Z bump you up a class? If not, get them.

This, for sure. But if you don't have the budget/time to buy a crapload of parts and swap them every event, I'd look at getting weight out of the car. It will help cornering, acceleration, and braking, if only a bit. Losing the 30 or so pounds of the passenger seat (and I assume mounting bracket/slider) might not be much, but it's free or could even make you some money if you sell it.

If you have to choose between front and rear bars, I'd choose front pretty much every time. Sharpens turn-in feel and actually improves front-end grip if you're at stock camber (and it looks like you are).

Finally, if you can do a diff for zero points and there's anyway you can swing the cash, DO IT. I have an 03 as well, and my diff barely works at all anymore. Even when it did work, it didn't work like a real diff.

I think I can swap the diff for free, so I may actually look into that. I didn't realize the 04 spring rates were higher, and yes I can swap them for free (can swap 'most' things that are from the same model car). If I do the front roll bar, I actually have a bit of room left that I can strip some things out of the car.

Some people hate how complicated the rules are and opt for more open series, but I like it. Its a good way to promote smaller budgets, and is another layer of strategy. Although if you go 'testing' all the different possible setups, you could blow that budget away haha.

I've also felt the rear bar offers the best single adjustment (between front and rear bars). Its always seemed to free up the rear-end when stiffened up.

If you can swap between years, consider the 07-08 Nismo version for suspension upgrades.

I already had that discussion with the organizer. They won't allow that upgrade without taking the penalty for suspension upgrade.

It looks like we will see three 350z this year at Solosprint. I'm running down a class in GT3 because I'm running street tires (255/40 R17 Hankook RS3s), a roll bar and harness(safety first). I've taken the interior out and will take a curb weight reduction option that puts me absolutely on the limit of GT3. It also allows me to move the battery around without taking a penalty.

Should be interesting to see the different setups and how they go.

Good luck.
