OK, blasian- I'll eat my words! Autox is fun as hell!
Wheels, great tires, springs, struts, swaybars, and remove that auto tranny for a 6 speed.
That's a great start. Boost is also not a great option for auto x
honestly if you want to get into auto x and do it cheap yet still manage to rock it out, find a old civic with a LS motor swap.
late 80s civic or 90-95 civic
100% stock LS motor swap from a integra LS DOHC 1.8L non vtec (cheap motors!)
Maybe do a civic SI tranny swap or JDM sir tranny.
super light wheels with the stickiest of tires.
springs/struts or coil overs
Maybe intake exhaust but that would be it.
You'd lay the smack down on many cars.

The APS TT I drove a few times was never able to get all its power to the ground, but the extra power was easily controlled with the throttle. (very smooth power delivery from the TT.)
However, the Z I drove with a centrifugal super-charger was a major PITA. It seemed to give an extra 100-150hp, all at once, in the middle of the tach somewhere. And almost always when I was already at or near the traction limit. Not good.

I'm at the ABF Road Tour event at Citizens Bank Park in Philly beatin the dog**** out of some modded turbo Mini Coopers.
These little things handle like effing go karts! Makes the Z feel like a 79 Caddy.
Suspension mods are def next on my list after paint and boost.
I'm hooked.

You'll have a new appreciation for it after you get some good suspension mods
Waiting hours for three ~1 min laps dodging cones in second gear (touching third briefly). Been there, done that, not my idea of fun. I don't get why people get addicted to it. To me, driving on a real track is so much more exciting.
You get to beat on your car, drive fast around cones, and get friendly competitions with zero mods..with friends for a cheap price.
Some the event's I've seen around here you get 8 runs and a few even have courses that will get you in high 3rd gear.

I had a TON of fun today. It was really out of the box and random for me.
