wow I think I may have to grab one. Pretty well the same price as the longacre unit I was planning to buy next year, but better!

My only concern is how much filtering is required by the GPS unit. Raw GPS data is incredibly noisy (just set a GPS on the ground and leave it to record for a few minutes).

don't forget about mine...a little more expensive, but more features, better display, and PC software

I like the idea but I'd like to see the software (if there is any). They make note that it can be used with "Any and all applications" but I didn't know they had a universal format. But still, you can't fault the feature/price point ratio.

Ok, after a little bit of reading check this out from the user manual.

The G-tech does not automatically determine lap timing
around the track so you have to resort to timing information
from beacon based timing equipment (Hot Lap, etc.) or stopwatch

timing from a friend as you cross a fixed point.

This sounds a bit odd to me. It can tell you segments but not lap times (Note: lap times can be entered into the Pass software and work normal from that point)? But other than that looks interesting.

The manual and other helpful info is hidden on this site somewhere...

Seriously,
check out my lap timers, download the unit software and the manuals.

Ping me if you want the PC software and real data, it's a lot more robust than the software than runs on the units.
