Short Report VIR
Rob Hines, my son and driver, spent 4 days at VIR this past weekend to run the SCCA Double National. Thursday was a practice day and we had 6 sessions to get back the feel of the car and get the shocks set. We found a swaybar bind and fixed that and then had ABS problems which may have been the computer.
Replaced that and Friday we qualified the T3 350Z on the pole at a 2:13.845 with 6 cars entered. The first 3 cars were within 1/2 second of each other. The Saturday race brought back the ABS problem and we ended up in 4th place with Bill Steinhoff winning in his T3 2008 350Z.
We qualified 3rd for the Sunday race with many time national champion John Heinricey on the pole in a Cobalt at 2:14.071 and our car at a 2:14.573 and the 6th place car at a 2:15.191 so the times were very close. Steinhoff broke his differential and while he had spare parts he couldn't get it fixed so he went home. It was a good race and Heinricey's car went into limp mode and he was out. Mike Krammer in a Saturn ION led most of the race with us a short distance back and being chased by Chris Puskar of Carbotech fame for the whole race. Rob Hines and Chris traded spots on the second from last lap and Rob Hines passed him back on last lap and both were closing on Krammer but we couldn't get the win being just a couple car lengths back at the checkered flag. Rob set the fastest race lap so thats encouraging. No ABS problems during the race and our new Goodyears held up and were consistant for the whole weekend. We were happy with the results considering our problems and look forward to the Summit Point race next month.
We have a few things that we can do to the car to make is more balanced and possibly about 15 more horsepower. We are also hoping to find the ABS problem and get that solved.
In a week or so we will post a long list of tires that are both new and take offs in 285 x 18 and 245 x 18 sizes. We have Kuhmo's, Hoosiers, Goodyears, and a set of BF Goodrichs'. Its time to empty out the garage again.
