Is that seemless? Meaning, you take video on iPhone4 and run the Harry's lap timer app, and this is the output? This is what I want to do in the most cost-effective, minimal amount of processing, way.

+1 for Harry's. It's not as fancy as the other apps but gets the job done. My only gripe is that the speed readout gets a little inaccurate on the faster courses (without a GPS amp) and the video only records every other lap. It's not really the apps fault but more of how the iPhone is designed. But you have your GoPro for that.

*EDIT* Looks like a new version of Harry's was released and now supports continuous vid! Here's the overlay on the new version.

The data is actually recorded with the video, no merging or after work needed.

yeah, the 1 hz sampling is good for general reference but not real data analysis. If you want that, you need to look at 5-10 hz sampling. You cna get that with a GPS add on, or just get a dedicated DA unit.

Hey, you can always buy one of mine.

1Hz is barely good enough for the street, 5Hz is MINIMUM for a track day, 10Hz is better. 20Hz+ for autocross.

Oh, and GPS -- even with WAAS -- has positioning error PER SAMPLE that is wider than your car.

Oh and for those that question the accuracy of Harrys. I've been in events using both an AMB transponder and Harrys, they recorded the exact same times.

Its truely amazing for what it is...

How would this setup harrys/aim solo, compare to a entry level traqmate for a few hundred more?

Also take a look at my stuff too. We sample at 10 Hz and you can review all the data with graphing on the unit or a pc.

Looks like I'll be trying this one first. Does Harry's just have a databank of tracks around the nation and you just select the one you're at?

My iphone is still wrapped up in the box. I hope to get to it next week.

That is correct.

That's just an example image from the site but glancing at my phone real quick it has 119 preset tracks/configs for N. America. I think you can even manually set your own triggers to create your own tracks (for situations like autocross).

+1 for Harry's. I just have an Ipod though. I use a TomTom GPS mount, but it's only 1Hz. There are more tracks in their database that you can imagine, too. I have found Harry's to be very accurate considering the price you pay compared to traqmates and things like that. My times are typically within .01 seconds at the worst and that's plenty good for me.

I take video with my GoPro and sync the video and data using RaceRender or Dashware.

I run Standard. Cheap and effective.

As for comparing Harrys to other devices, like the Aim Solo, traqmate, or MHowards RaceChrono, I can't because I haven't had experience with those products but I just like the price and features of the Aim Solo.

For Harrys, I had a device that can time laps already (IPod), and under $100 I have a mount+app. Thats pretty good bang for buck IMO versus the other options.

Pro version here. For the extra $10 bucks it had some nice features.
