Tough Day @ Laguna Seca
AutoBahn in Mountain View is a great shop. A little on the expensive side though.
I forgot the numbe/addy. Either look it up on the net or go to NSX prime and search for it on their forum. ( www.nsxprime.com ) The compleatly re-did the ENTIRE front end of an Imola Orange NSX, frame and all. Looks absolutly perfect. The shop is near Elcamino and Grant, by a Holleywood Video and Allison BMW.

Jsn - Thanks for the info.
I have an appointment at a shop in Santa Cruz on Thursday, but I work in MV, so if things look sketchy on thursday I'll check out those Autobahn guys (I think I've driven by their shop quite a few times).

Hey Doh,
some quick questions....
1) Did you loose it at the bottom of the hill? (hairy corner!)
2) Did you have VDC on at the time?
3) Speed?
4) Stock or racing slicks?
5) Keep us up to speed on your insurance.
See ya,
Beak.

Well if you have drivin by it you will know it is not the best looking shop on the outside. Just keep that in mind. When I went there with my friends NSX they had some kind of ferrari in the back (older) as well as a Z8. I am told they usually do high end cars.
b18 - Yes, Laguna has a sound policy. I think it is 90 dB max @ 50 ft. It's a pretty tight requirement (but they sometimes tell you where the sound guy will be so you can just let off the throttle as you go by).
Beaker:
1. Lost traction just after turn 6 entering the straightaway (turn 6 is the sharp left hander just before the "Rahal Straight" - the Corkscrew is Turn 7/8)
2. Yes, I had VDC on
3. Not sure of speed, but I was in third gear, probably around 4000 RPM. Maybe 60 MPH?
4. 245/40-18 Yokohama AVS E/S 100 in front, 245/45-18 Hankook Venstus Sport K104 in back.
5. Haven't heard yet, but will post as soon as I find out. I really hope they'll come through for me, but I'm trying to expect the worst so I don't get too dissapointed if they don't.

So, it looks like insurance will cover the accident, so that is very good news.
My rates will be going up by about 25-30%, but as long as I have a good record for the 9 years I'll eventually get back to where I was a month ago.
Thanks for your help guys.

Initial estimate is $6500. Hopefully there isn't too much additional damage hidden under the skin.
Thanks again for your support, folks. Hopefully she'll be back up and running soon. I'm already going through withdrawls.

It's good to hear that your insurance is covering it as I'm sure that's a weight off your chest. It's also nice to see that the damage appears at least to be mostly superficial. I had a recent run-in with ice and slid off the road so I feel for ya. Boy, I'd really like to drive that track but hearing of your accident damps that somewhat.

It looks as if the door is badly dented also. Does your estimate include replacing the door panel or only the left front wing? It would be nice to keep the amount of Bondo used to a minimum. If you get door dings down the road, dentpro won't be able to remove it because the Bondo will crack.
Just a thought.

Hey D'oh! please email me or reply here.
I just messed up my front end (not as bad as you) at an AutoX event.
How did you get the insurance covered and what company are you?
PLEASE give advice.

Just an update.
All the parts have finally arrived (with the exception of one wheel and one TPS, which are on backorder) and I dropped the Z off at the shop this morning.
First time I've driven her in about three weeks, and man do I miss it. I've been driving my GF's Dakota to work (we carpool) and it's a great truck, just no replacement for the Z.
So, with any luck, I'll be back in the Z in another few weeks. One thing I'm concerned about is that the tranny seemed to be grinding a bit this morning (which is pretty normal when cold) and I was getting a humming noise from the rear diff (which I've never noticed before). I don't remember this from before the accident, and I'm nervouse that the dealer will be hesitant to do any warranty tranny work cuz of the crash. My GF (who was following in the DAK) even said that the Z sounded funny. Ah well, we'll see what the future holds (perhaps a simple fluid change for the tranny and diff will solve the problem).
Anyhow, I'll post the list of parts from the estimate tomorrow (if I can remember). It's pretty long.

YAY! Got my car back today.
I still need to go to the dealer to get the replacement TPS registered to the computer, but other than that the car is as good as new. I'll be testing out this Sunday at the San Fran SCCA AutoX. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. It sure is nice to have her back.
