Default What club are you part of?

Hey all I tried Auto-X this year to get a feel for my car on the limit to prepare for the road course (although I know it is much different) and I cannot wait to try out the road courses. I am still new at this and I am looking into several clubs to join or maybe just drive with.

What clubs do you do HPDE with? It seems like HPDE with a club is much cheaper then just going to an open track day.

I want to see my options. I am from NY and plan on driving at tracks near me such as Lime Rock, Pocono, tracks in NJ, Watkins.

Any insight would be greatly appreciate.

My car is bone stock minus, already got a SA rated Helmet, gloves, and shoes. What else should I prepare to buy before the season? I have 2 sets of wheels and going to transfer my current tires onto my old winter set after this winter and use those for the track. They are G-Forces with about 50% front, 35-40% rear. I don't want to use brand new tires which I will buy for my summer wheels on the track since I don't have that much money to waste yet haha.

Thanks!

I have been tracking my Z(only mod is brake pads) pretty hardcore this summer. Before getting on track good brake pads, I recommend Carbotech XP10 front/XP8 rear, brake lines and do all fluids with Motul(clutch, brakes, trans, diff, oil).

From there, a set of sway bars would do a lot.

The most important thing is SEAT TIME! Learn to drive your car!

Most important thing said.

Normal over the counter Dot 4 and get a fresh bleed on your brakes and clutch. Make sure you have at least 75% pad life. Show up and drive.

Everything else, worry about as you need it.

I track with the PCA, Speedventures and Extreme Speed. PCA seems to cost the most.

Thanks! Yes I know the most important thing is seat time that is why I can't wait to learn!

I will look into those clubs. Has anybody heard of SCDA? I was looking and it seems like a good option for my area.

Check out your local Porsche and BMW Clubs, as well as NASA and other "for Profit" HPDE groups...Chin Motorsports does a couple of events @ Watkins Glen...maybe more in the NE.

In the northeast, pretty much any of the clubs will have the same instructor base for HPDE events. I run primarily with www.comscc.org, which is good if you're looking to dip a toe into actual competition, as is NASA. I have also instructed with SCDA a couple of times, and though it's a bit more relaxed than COM is, many of the instructors are the same. BMWCCA and the Northeast Audi club are also other options that dip from the same instructor pool.
