Default lowering engine-lowering CG

Searched but really didn't find much, going to install solid motor mounts and was wondering if anyone has lowered the engine a little to lower the center of gravity and how much can you get away with. Have not looked yet, just a passing thought, I can have the solid mounts machined at work, but not sure how much we have to play with.

Bryan Settle/LightningGuy had his motor lowered last year at ZdayZ. Maybe someone can get his attention.

Oil pan clearing the crossmember will be the biggest problem.

I would love to do like the Fontana Nissan Z, the motor is lowered and moved back about 9 inches.

There is a thread around here with pictures of Bryan's lowered engine. I'll look around and try to find it.

Edit scratch that... They are on his facebook page. Just look through his photos. You do not need to be friends with him, his page is public.

That would be badass, I have moved my sitting position in the car back that much, that would be perfect. So right now shifting is about at its limit on reach, have to do some looking around under there. Fabrication wouldn't be a problem, but I am guessing you would need a custom drive shaft due to the difference. Next winters mod,

cant view facebook at work I will have to wait till I get home

I would think you would also have to lower your transmission, which would require lowering your crossmember and lengthening your shifter. Seems like a lot of work and not worth it unless you were doing something competitive and needed the advantage.

If your car is already lowered you probably don't have much clearance from the ground to the cat flanges. I know mine are 3.5", if I lowered the engine I would be dragging my exhaust.

My car does not see the street, only track use, so clearance shouldn't be that big of an issue

Better then lowering would be moving it back. Anything to get more weight on the back of the car is good.

With solid motor mounts you should definitely be able to move the motor down a bit. I think my solid motor mounts already lowered the motor a hair. I used to rub my plenum on my hood and no longer do so.

Your a 100% right, maybe next year. I was going to put the motor mounts in this winter, I was just curious if anything was possible, since I would be installing them

Just be sure that if you are planning to compete that the changes you make are legal in the class you would want to run in. If its just going to be a track rat, then go wild.
