Default Removable Numbers?

So my magnetic numbers from autocrossing have seen better days. Also since I plan on attending more track days and any sustained speed over 50 tends to send magnetic numbers flying I am on the hook for some new numbers.

Anyone have a line on some removable numbering?

I'd like to just get a decal made but the car will still see street service for the short term until I buy a truck.

Thanks,
D

Make a outline/stencil of the number(s) you use and spray plasti-dip to fill in. Works great and its easy to remove.

My magnetic numbers stay on regardless of where or how fast I'm driving. I got mine from a local member years ago and I can't remember where he got them, unfortunately.

You can also look into those vinyl/film looking numbers that you apply onto a wet surface with a squeegee.

MAKE YOUR OWN NUMBERS

The ones I make myself are actually more visible than many of the ones you
can buy, and will work on any color car.

I use the heavy-duty white magnetic background and black 3M ControlTac (NOT SCOTCHCAL!) film.

I print on my printer at home in Helvetica Bold or similar simple sanserif
font and use the outline style to save on ink. Roughly cut out numbers,
leaving a half-inch or so of paper outside the outline. Punch holes in
paper numbers with a paper punch.

(Rocky Mountain Solo has a page where you can print from a PDF. Go to
http://www.rmsolo.org/makenumbers.html This will use up more toner than
outline numbers, though.)

Lay out the rough-cut numbers on black film. Put a square of scotch tape
over each punched hole.

Cut out the numbers with scissors, following the lines on the paper.

Peel off the paper outline.

The 3M ControlTac film allows pretty easy repositioning until you really
press on it. Even months later, I have found that it can be removed with
patience and fingernails. Putting it in the freezer first helps.

Using a white background insures that the numbers will work on any color
car. Studies have shown that monochrome reflection contrast is the only
thing that really counts. Color-contrast is essentially worthless. The best
contrast is, predictably, black and white.

Large magnetic pieces stay on the car better than numbers cut out of
magnetic material. I have put large magnetics on cars bridging over rubber
trim, and they still stayed on the car at autocross speeds.

Thanks for the suggestions. Just remembered that the Corvette guys use the static-cling vinyl film. Going that route.

I had mine made at a sign shop for a pretty reasonable price for when I used to autocross. They are basically one big magnet. I have had them for around 7 years or so and they held up to 125mph and in pretty cold weather this weekend.

I have used these for 3 years with no problems, autocross and track. The outlined autocross set looks great.

SamC, magnetic set or reusable vinyl? I am thinking about trying the reusable vinyl.

both of my suggestions involve business advertising magnets.
one is to just get one used and spray paint your own numbers.
second is to just have the magnetic sign made with your numbers on it.
those signs arent going anywhere. I personally witnessed a video production company's camera car that had one on either door, up to about 145 mph.
as with any magnets seeing high speed, always tape the leading edges like terrasmak mentioned.

You could also check into these guys for reusable vinyl numbers. I have had good luck with them over the years.

Got my numbers on Saturday from izoom. Got the cheapest ones but still love them. They feel like great quality.

You could paint them silver and they would look great....not that they don't look good as is. Just throwing out some ideas.

White > Silver, especially when it comes to lettering (plus, it'll be more visible and on more cars).
