I Decided to Candy Paint my nissan tow hook that came with my car and i figured i would do a write up, because it came out looking SO good.
Here you go!
What You Need:
-Duplicolor Metalcast Base Coat (This is the Silver Metallic that will shine through the candy coat)
-Duplicolor Metalcast Candy Clear Topcoat of your Choice (Color Choices are Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple, Orange, Smoke).. i used Red
-An old Thick Cardboard Box (To Hold up the hook for painting)

Step 1... Slice an X in the top of the box a little bigger than the Threaded part of the Tow Hook, then thread the hook into the X.
Step 2... Spray the hook with 3-4 LIGHT coats of the Metalcast metallic base coat. Light coats are necessary to keep the paint looking uniform and not rippled / dripping. Allow 10 minutes between each coat. Make sure you spray all around the hook (up into the hole too)

Step 3... Let Base Coat dry 10-15 minutes, then apply 2 LIGHT coats of the Metalcast Clear Candy Topcoat. Allow 10 minutes to dry between each coat. Again, make sure you spray all angles of the hook.

Step 3... Apply one Full Wet Coat, apply it lightly but a fair amount of spraying should be used and the hook will look "Wet". This is the last coat, the paint is dry to the touch in one hour, it can be handled in three hours, and is fully cured in 24 Hours.

Now you're done! A clear coat is not necessary because the Candy coat is essentially a colored clear coat.

PM me if you have any questions...
ENJOY!!

Does it come out pretty smooth or still a bit bumpy? What kind of prep did you do, a quick cleaning?

Yeah it came out pretty smooth, the hook is a bit bumpy to begin with but it the base coat filled a lot of it in...
As far as prep i just washed it really good.. im sure you could sand it down a bit if you wanted.

I just painted mine today. I prep'd it a little by sanding it.

Pic w/o the spray cans with the final coat, still drying.
