On a scale from 1-10 how hard do you guys rate this? I tried this a while back on my ford but had a hard time taking the lights apart! broke all the tabs that hold the lights to the car
my lights were never the same. Sealed up nice never got moistue but cuz I messesed all the tabs I always knew in the bck of my head they were not done right.. I suggest using a flat brick..or I used pieces from a broken cinder block to rest my lights on while in the oven. Anything w metal can get too hot and melt or stick to your plastic

Blacked mine out today and decided to do everything and now lights are extremely dim...is there anything I can do to restore the chrome reflective part in the headlight? Or is my lighting dim due to the headlight adjustment screws?
Check and make sure your bulbs are seated correctly. Did you paint the projector housing itself? Maybe you painted the reflector bowl? The housing is the thing that the lens sits in, and the reflector bowl sits on the back of that. That should remain chrome. L-Fab is a vendor on here, and explained to me what the parts in there are, and do. He helped me alot, maybe he can answer some stuff for you.

stupid question. if you do this to a MY04 will you lose visibility on the road? is that why the only thing i find on painting these is for the 2006+ model year? planning on doing this to my girlfriends Z but not sure if there is an HID upgrade/projector retrofit that will keep me from having to get a new set of headlights.
the work itself i can do since i've done it to my last 2 s2000's and my current genesis coupe. just a thought. thanks guys

Hey Guys..Im hoping to repaint a pair of cincity headlights...I have no idea what paint they used but as you see the paint is all bubbling up along the bottom of the headlight. Anybody having similar issues? How can I avoid this in the future?
You got a picture of it on your car? in the day and at night pictures would be great. I might have you do my 07 headlamps
hey im bumping an old thread, but everyone always reads the last page first anyways these days..
a couple tips for anyone opening up adn trying to re seal the headlights.
1- dont use silicone, use only OEM Nissan oxy butyl rubber glue, comes in a big roll like tootsie roll sized. Buy at Nissan or FAR better yet, buy in bulk for 15 bucks at theretrofitsource.com
2- take a handfull of q tips and cut the fuzzy ends off them before opening your light, and keep a trash can very nearby. As you open the light, use the swab sticks to "nip up" the spiderwebs of goo that form as you pull the lights apart. Just use them almost as a cutting blade, pull the light apart slightly, run a stick thru 4-6 inches of glue gap and youve easily cleared the path and mess less mess.
3- DOnt use more sealant when sealing than you need.. its tuff to squish out the extra, pull it thin like spaghetti and lay down in the grove.
4- Take more q tip sticks ( or i reccomend snipped pieces of a metal hanger) and FIND all your screw holes and angles BEFORE putting the lights back in the oven. You can push the halves back as good as poss, and you keep it aligned better, and will also have less goo to stab the screws thru later.
5- leave the oven on still after the first reseal pass. Line things up, strighten it out, and then reheat a few minutes and REALLY push it back together to avoid that gap in the turn signal bucket.
6-Use high temperature semi gloss pant like Krylon Engine enamel as youl avoid the bubbling under the lens later on, and it will not look like flat stove paint primer.
7- You can lightly cook the plastic parts in the oven ( same way) at even lower temperatures after its initial cure. (Ie paint on a friday night, wake up Sat morning and put them in the oven for 20 minutes or so at 125 degrees etc. This aloows final outgassing.
8- just before you reseal the light halves, wipe everything down w alcohol and double triple check the proj lens for lingering fingerprints and hold the outter lens up to th elight and look thru them from both sides to make sure theres no inside finger prints on the headlight clear lenses. ( ask me how i know).

Thats great. You think they use the same glue/silicone as my Z? Maybe buy Nissan lights only??
